So my husband has talked about his slot cars from when he was a child since we met. He had a nice little set up.
when his family relocated his dad apparently never packed up the track and cars and left them in the cellar of his old house. He’s been mad about since he was 7 years old.

Well I’ve been poking around on eBay lately and have some purchases on their way... a couple cars and a small track set.

I know he’s gonna be super excited. I can’t wait to surprise him!

Don’t kill me but when I 1st read it my mind replaced the O with a U... I was like what’s she talking about what?? Lol

I still have my Aurora Model Motoring HO scale slot car set from when I was a kid (early 1960s)...my HO train set as well. They're stored away...not sure what I'm ever going to do with it all...hopefully my daughter might one day have a boy I can pass it on to. I've checked eBay...this stuff doesn't go for much unless you have something special and rare about it.

Lol no killing needed.
I probably would have done the same thing ;)

Oh COOL!!

Man, I absolutely LOVED my slot cars when I was a kid!

I would modify them with bigger magnets, and splayed guides so they wouldn't fly off the tracks. ;)

Man, now I'm wanting mine back too Monica........ :)

I’m pretty excited to give it to him.

Got him a Jackie Stewart Challenge Raceway and apparently his favorite car was a Cheetah so I found him one of those.

I used to have a track with a few cars when I was a kid. I used to grease the corners with a bit of Vaseline so I could get the cars to drift.
My Wife got me a Batman set for this past Christmas, which I have yet to set up. The box says that the cars can actually drive themselves.

I used to race slot cars. Nothing fancy, but if you look for winged box 15 slot car videos it's what they are. I tried to add a picture but it's too big, I will edit it down tonight and get it then

DK, you brought back some fond memories.
I started with a small track at home with two lanes
and it was so much fun racing my friends.

Later, I got into larger cars 1/32nd scale, which you
would take to a commercial track with about 6-8 lanes,
can’t remember now. You would bring your car and
a controller and rent time on the track.

We would change the motors or modify the windings
on the armature, anything to make the motor faster.
We would also drill the frame and add bearings
for the axles for less friction. To make the tires
sticker, we would use dry cleaning fluid to clean
the rubber which would give you better traction.
DK, thanks for the memories. You and your husband
will have hours of fun. After a little time with the car
and controller you will stay on the track more.

cooper St That’s what I’m talking about, Wing Slot Car
racing videos

I'm hoping he sets it up in our basement and plays with it.
Just something fun he probably wouldn't have bothered buying for himself :)

I had them in early 80’s and between them and transformers are probably why I have a affinity for cars. Damn you dad! Now if I can just get my mustang to turn into a robot....

I never had slot cars.. but when I was a kid, my older brother passed me down a very cool race track with electric race cars. I also had the hot-wheels setup, you know plastic orange track thingy...

I still have some matchboxes, newer in packaging on my knick-knack shelf... Ya know the usual, 68 Charger, a few Mustangs and of course a Ferrari F-40. I do have an old Matchbox Wildcat Mustang in the original box. Had that since I was a kid.

I had an enormous matchbox collection when I was a kid. Whenever my dad had to go to the store, I'd do a ride-along, and he'd let me poke around in the toy isle. After a while he'd come and find me and say "alright, which one are we taking home today..." He never said no... I wish I had them all today...

Thanks for the trip down memory lane Monica! :)

That was my thought too... never heard of slot cars either... they must be like matchbox cars?

Why does she need to have a boy? My 4yo daughter loves car stuff (and dinosaurs, and building stuff, and...)
