anyone. roof micro pitting after long term care?

Does anyone have a dark colored car kept outside, regularly waxed, with micropitting on the roof and trunk paint (horizontal surfaces)?

Just wondering if I'm the only one, or if I didn't wax enough.

The micropitting gives the paint a hazy look.
 
Brand, year, model, color? Could you be any less descriptive? Is it a 1948 Buick?
 
i didn't think the brand or model were relevant.

I'm asking about dark cars in general. Any brand.

But i'll add any dark color with a clear coat. Not anything with 1 stage paint.
 
Does it look like any of the pitting in these pictures?

I see it on both of my cars. 2002 VW passat in silver and a 2010 BMW in grey. It's sad and confusing why it would break down like that. On both of my cars it seems to be most noticeable on the roof.

Yeah, kind of like that, but not as bad. I'd say mine is about 25 percent of that.

I need to know if there's a way to save it at this point.

I'm afraid to polish too much for fear of burning through the clear coat.

My car is approaching 8 years age.

I'm surprised you're seeing it so early on your 2010.
 
Clearcoat failure, which unfortunately = repaint
 
Do you live by any type of industrial factory? Could be fallout damage.
 
man, looking at other cars, I knew the hood roof and trunk were the most prone to failure, so I waxed those the most.

guess I didn't wax enough.

You can't take the blame for the damage, no matter what or how much protection you put on the car, it wouldn't have prevented the damage.
 
Don't feel bad me any many others with titans have awful hoods and roofs. Even though I kept my 05. Waxed since new I have clear coat failure so bad on my roof there is rust. Actually have nissan looking into the issue but I see way to many on the road like that to hold out for hope.
 
I've got the same problem with my 06 black suburban. Polished and waxed regularly, garage kept since I bought it in 09. Very frustrating.
 
this is disappointing.

short of a vinyl wrap, even wax doesn't protect clear coat. Interesting.

I wouldn't go quite that far. I mean even considering how many cars that are plagued with CC failure, there are thousands upon thousands that aren't. Some are "AutoGeek" maintained and some are not. Just think of the term itself: CLEARCOAT FAILURE. Which I take to mean there was a flaw in the clearcoat that caused IT to fail, not wax failure. Wax failure means there is no longer anything on the paint to cause water beading or sheeting or to act as a sacrificial barrior and there is nothing but bare paint exposed. So I wouldn't be willing to give waxes a bad rap yet.
