Anyone seen this issue before?

Does look a bit light on the clear. Try taking clear touch up and hitting those spots. Probably will disappear.

Have you personally used the technique you are suggesting to the OP?

I keep seeing people on the Forum suggesting, "clear touch-up" or "try aerosol clear", but I never see any before & afters

Please, somebody post a successful repair where the clear was blended without re-clearing the entire panel.

Would like to know a possible fix other than a repaint. Seeing before and afters of using clear would be helpful if it works.
What I really want to find out now is if the bumper has been repainted and why because I wouldnt have purchased the car if it had been repaired.

Ask the dealer you bought it from for a CarFax on it

Or just go to the CarFax website

I bought the car as cpo and the car fax was clean at the time I bought it.

carfax and/or cpo doesn't mean anything these days.

i've bought brand new cars that had port repairs and pre-delivery damage. nobody said anything and it wasn't detectable until later. so imagine what happens with CPO...

i'm not saying to be super paranoid but it helps to be very aware of what to look for and if you don't, try to find someone terribly knowledgeable to do a ppi.

No bushes around to cause the scratches. It is parked in a garage both at home and at work.

No cats or dogs around either.

As far as I know I it is factory paint, but I bought it used from a Mercedes dealership.
The photos that you posted. Bumper has been resprayed. I can tell from factory vs repaint

Ive come to the conclusion that this is most likely clear coat cracking.
How or why it happened I am not sure.

I may need to go get an estimate on repair because it drives me nuts.
Dealership vendor (mobile bumper guys) use cheap production clear 2-5 years life.

I work for a dealership dont trust the car fax. I

Dealers want all damage/repairs fix asap before they go out on the line to be sold. So the customer wont no or cant tell there has been any repairs made. Dealers wont say a word. Sold as is

Bumper is going to have to be repainted. clear is cracking and will continue.

The car is still under extended warranty. I wonder if they that would be covered under the warranty or if I would have a case with the dealership that sold it to me which is out of state.

Probably result in more hassle than its worth.

I know not to fully trust carfax just saying that as far as I was aware of it never had been in an accident.

You can ask the dealer if they can warranty it. I recently purchased tuxedo black 2013 ford escape at a dealer. Long story short car fax was clean no damage prior rental. I fully inspected vehicle. The side plastic was painted I can tell by the metallics flop and orange peel. Also the lift gate had deep sand scratches around the emblem along with a blend.

I got the dealer to minus 2000- and had them to repaint the side plastic.

Um...I hate to ask the obvious question...but did your road trip include taking any luggage or supplies in and out of the trunk?

For me it's my dog. A 145lb dog's pads and nails will do a real number on the bumper of a hatchback.

Anyone think using some spray on clear would have any effect on it? Something like Dr colorchip probably would be much good because other areas would just start to appear.

If it's a bad paint job like we think it is, putting good paint on top isn't going to help.
