Im too old to deal with another torrid summer ! My garage is insulated. Im thinking about getting one of these AC's and running it for a few hours before doing a detail. My garage is ~ 450 sqft. 13000 BTU should do the trick. Thoughts anyone?

I never had really good luck with portable ac. We had about 3 in the house one summer and none of them really worked. I hated that the tank that holds the water was so small, had to empty it every 3 hours... so in the summer nights I would wake up sweating. But that was about 5 years ago, I'm sure portable ac has improved.

Id get the 2 hose model which should eliminate or reduce that. There are mixed reviews on Amazon. Thanks for your feedback!

Where are you going put the hose that bring the hot air outside? You have window in your garage?

I have used one in the past...13000 think. It took forever to cool the garage by only about 10 degrees and that wasnt in the heat of the day. I opted to install the Mitsubishi ductless unit. My garage window faces the street so no go on the window unit. The ductless unit installed over the walk in door. I did add insulation over the garage in the attic. I still need to insulate the doors before summer hits. Bottom line, the ductless unit was worth every penny.

Im going to have to check that out. Thanks much!

I have 1 window.

Is it big enough to put a window unit in? I've got a window unit for my garage that works awesome, and it's a lot easier to set up than a portable unit would be. I can get it downright cold in there during the summer!

I had a window unit in my old garage. I had a shop set up where I used to do side jobs (mechanical) in the evenings and on weekends. I would come home from work, kick on the window unit and eat dinner. By the time I would go out to the garage you could hang meat in there. It worked great

I used a floor model from Home Depot four years ago. I ran the three inch hose out the window and the drain hose through a crack along the door opening. It was a pain but it worked great.

I plan to install a couple low profile ceiling fans in the garage this year. May have to follow suit with the a/c if they don't get the job done.

I have two low profiles and even at high speeds they only move air around, but cooling is what you are after. Using power equipment will only add to the conditions.

Unfortunately the window is on the front of the house. Mrs. OT wont go for that.

Just tucked this thread away for future reference. I found this past summer that while I could tolerate the heat as long as I consumed a few gallons of water, products do some really strange stuff under high humidity.

That is the other driver for wanting to do something!

This may seal the deal!

Let me tell you a little story...... I redid the basement, pool table, ping pong table, flat screen TV's. My son took it over. Redid the front room, overstuffed chairs, flat screen TV's reclining couch...my daughter took it over.

I have the garage. Heated, cooled and working on a ceiling bracket for the TV.... the dog is starting to like it there, I wonder......
