anyway of stopping telemarketers from calling your home phone?

I usually give the phone to my 9yr old and have them take over the conversation. She can go on and on and on and on about all kinds of stuff.

I've even had my 13yr old son who is VERY sharp and can be quite witty take over. He's actually laid into them with some pretty serious questions. LOL!

Now they fight over who can take the call and keep them on the longest. The best part is when the call comes in, I answer and they ask for me and I hand the phone to my son. LOL!

Or answer each call personally and toy with them until they stop

To each their own but people complain about these calls and then for some reason think giving the caller a hard time will stop the calls. Never going to happen. The callers don't own the business. They are hired to make sales. They _know_ people are going to give them a hard time. If you give them a hard time they are not going to go out of their way to remove you from their call list. If anything I suspect they would do their best to make it worse for you in some way.

Add your phone to the do not call list. Whenever possible, don't give out your phone number when asked. When someone calls, politely ask them to be added to their Do Not Call List.

This won't always change things but it _will_ do far more then being rude to a caller. Being rude might make you feel better for a short time but don't complain when they keep calling.

My girlfriend just tells them she is just watching the house. Tells them the family is at the funeral home making funeral arrangements. They usually quite calling.

My ex-wife used that ploy ... "I'm just the baby sitter" .... and they NEVER stopped calling until I told them we weren't interested & please put our number on their DoNotCall list.

Nomorobo has been very effective for us, it's free and I've never gotten a junk email from them after signing up. It's not available for all telecom providers though.

Only down side is that your phone will ring once, then stop. Takes some adjusting to wait until the second ring before going to the phone.

It's also very good at filtering correctly. I still get automated calls for prescriptions, dr appts and from the library that a book is ready.

Exactamundo! The very best way to stop telemarketers.

I'm trying to remember what the last year was when we had a home phone....don't recall. Even with a cell only you're going to get them every once in a while. Easy to block until the next one.

Last time someone called me, I kept asking where did you get this number from. When they told me, I asked new questions, made it sound like they are being interrogated. They just get scared/tired and hang up.
