Applying Opti-Coat on wheels

Don't use the cotton make-up pads, try the foam rubber ones. The come in round and wedge shape. :xyxthumbs:
Thats what I use. I found that you'll need both types. My wife gets them from Target. They also work really well for applying UTTG and WGTS

Rasky,
Do you find that you use a lot more OC when you air brush it on? That would be the only draw back that I can see. Have you applied it to a car with a air brush? How much do you usually use for a wheel?

Yes, you use quite a bit more product, but I'm already charging a premium so I don't sweat it for wheels being such a small area. I haven't measured how much I use for wheels yet, I just fill up the cup and suck back up any left over with the syringe.

I've applied it to some test panels with my airbrush but the spray pattern is too narrow IMO. I picked up a mini-HLVP gun last week and plan to do some more testing when I find some free time. Anthony Orosco and at least one other person have already sprayed a full car with good results. (I'm told about 20cc to spray a small car)

In theory is should leave behind a thicker layer of product and it also eliminate the chance of marring during application. If I do get the spray process down to do a whole car the price for application will increase to cover any additional cost. ;)

Thanks, great discussion on this topic! So how long do you let the Opti-Coat cure before remounting the wheel and/or driving the vehicle?

Good question. I'm wondering the same thing

I personally let mine cure over night and mounted them after work the next afternoon. So I waited about 24 hours; but I had the time and ability to wait that long.

In all reality I would say you should be able to re-mount them in 1hr or so.

With the Opti-Guard I mount the wheels about 5-10 minutes after they are coated, but I also avoid touching the coated areas. They can get wet or be driven on after an hour. With the OC 2.0 I would agree with Troy, but you should be able to get them wet with water after 12hrs and driving will be fine too....I always try to keep my clients cars over night even with Opti-Guard though.
