I have these pesky spots that always seem to come back. However they're brown...I always just think its dirt but the way it forms and how it always comes back it might be water spots.

If you believe it to be please let me know what stage you think they are.

Mind some of these pics look pretty bad but its not like when youre walking by my car you just see these nasty spots, you have to be up close.

Thoughts?

Edit: it says I don't have permission to post an attachment on this forum... how do I post the pics?
Never mind... photobucket worked

They do look like water spot but what do you mean they come back? And if they comeback, that means you were able to get rid of them before. How did you do that?

Is the car part near a water sprinkler or do you not completely dry the car after a wash?

Just playing a bit of detective here to get a sense of what the defect is exactly.

They do look like waterspots, but they just look like you have waterspots covered in dirt and dust. If you wash it and they don't disapear then you will need to use a waterspot remover or polish them off. Just do a test spot and see.

I guess they don't go away but they are hidden for a while after a wash. My car is always outside I don't have a garage.

Booo... what level do they look like?

I'd say type 2 because if they keep coming back they're etched in. pretty standard to polish out, what do you currently have in your inventory? It seems like what's happening is that the dirt is showing the difference in level of your paint. When the minerals etch the paint they are lower than the surrounding paint and the dirt shows that even more, although you can still see them if they're deep enough.

Inventory wise I have megs UP, UW, megs clay kit, megs applicator pads, megs mf towels, megs waffle weave dry towels, megs quick detail spray (which is a spray wax right? )
I think that's about it.
I'm waiting on them all to arrive in a big box in a couple days :)

Ay ay ay people, those aren't water spots, they are dirt spots! Your vehicle is well waxed, right? And water beads up on it, right? Those spots are what you get when there is a layer of dust on the car and it gets wet from condensation or a light sprinkle, the water beads up and takes the dust/dirt with it, then dries...dirt spots!

Then they go away when you wash your car, right? But they mysteriously come back a few days later, right? Just wash your car more often.

Sad to say but other then the occasional spray wax that I belIeve was more of a cleaner wax I've never waxed my car...

Well.. whatever it is, if they get "hidden" after a wash, that will be a problem. Hard to get rid of something you cant see. Do you have something like the brinkman? My guess is that if it is a water stain, it will reveal itself under some strong light even after a wash. However, i am uncertain as to if they can be taken care of by hand. Nonetheless... you will never know until you try. When you get your stuff delivered, wash, clay and polish with UP. You will probably need to put some elbow grease into it. If UP doesn't work, goto your local auto parts store and pick up some Ultimate Compound.

Btw... Ultimate Quik Detailer is not a spray wax although it does contain some polymers. Megs spray wax is called Ultimate Quik Wax.

Yes but you've spray waxed it and water beads on it when it rains?

I don't think so...lol it's always just looked like normal rain to me.

I think it might of been just a cleaning agent mostly. Jaxwax hawaiian shine I've used on it a few times.

Btw... it is quite possible that its some stubborn above surface stain that clay can potentially get rid of. So before you get aggressive with UP application, check your paint after claying with something like a brinkmann.

And as always, test spot first.

To the OP,

What you're seeing are IMPRINT water spots. That is where water repeated pools and then dries, the corrosive elements in the water etch the perimeter of where the water bead formed.

Each time water lands on your car, this perimeter will act like a guide to cause the water to form a bead in the same place. The longer this goes on, the deeper the imprint etching will become.

Click the below link and scroll down till you see the red car with imprint rings... (this article can be found in my article list by the way)

Should I then treat these like sprinkler water spots?

It really shouldn't deviate from your original plan. What could change is in the product you may need.

Wash
Clay
Polish - Try with UP first and if this doesn't clear it up, move on up to UC
Wax

As mentioned before, you will need a good light source to inspect. Or if its a sunny day, you can pull your car out into the sun to inspect.

Maybe they are hidden for a while because they are dirt and get washed off. I don't know what you other members are seeing but I looked at the OP's pictures again, and I don't see any etched-in spots--I see dirt and a couple of water spots, but I can't make out any permanent/etched spots.

Ill have to wait for a nice sunny day.
It probably doesn't help that I usually have to wash and dry the car in the hot summer sun since I have no garage...that probably helped aid these spots in covering the car.

I got a Black & Decker hand held LED spot light and I don't remember what the output was and altho build quality is subpar, it does provide tons of light and it is more than sufficient for inspecting your paint. I am pretty sure it was under $25 at Walmart. And while you are there, might as well pick up UC as it, or other brand's counter parts, should be part of any detailer's arsenal.
