You state you rarely use a wax and a 3 step buff is all that's necessary or what you use, but in this thread below you state Collinite Fleetwax is the best 20 bucks you will ever spend?

Liquid ebony or black ebony hasn't been made in 20 years ??

And back to the original question.

Yes.

I had a beater and I am pretty lazy. I always waxed the hood and sides of my 1992 Ford Explorer. I seldom waxed the roof. it was always pared outside in the hot, Southern California sun.

After 24 years the hood and sides are pretty good. Some clear failure on the hood due to too many corrections. But the roof which was never corrected has no clear on it at all.

So. No wax. No clear. After a 24 year test. The waxes used were all straight nubas, No cleaner waxes. Harly Wax for the first 10 years and Collinite 845 thereafter.

I got the Collinite long before it became trendy. I was in Harbor Freight one day and they had a box of it on the "dump" shelf. So I bought it all. Can't go wrong for $2.50 a bottle.
Also bought the few remaining Collinite 476 paste waxes.

Almost same experience.

Co-worker had an older car, I received a wax at work and I was showing him that polish is required for the shine.

I put waxed a small part of his door so he can see the difference since he was thinking pure wax would shine up his car.

He wasn't interested in anything at the time.

Few years later, large percentage of his clear coat failed except for that quarter size spot we had waxed.

Made me a firm believer. Can't remember which wax it was we used.

Hey. You made a mistake. You capitalized "new" in your last sentence.

Yes they are, they protect against, contaminates, bird poo, water marks, harder for Dirt to adhere, it don't make you bulletproof, but it gives you a fighting chance.

That is menzerna powerlock one coat on my hood

I have come across alot of 5 year old cars that have never been waxed and the clearcoat is blistered off of them and the people want me to fix it. When I tell them its to late you should have waxed it they just say, the dealer said it had clearcoat and didn't need to be waxed. Usually seniors that a salesman can fool to make a deal.
Yeah the salesman tactic for seniors love it.also the free car wash as well, washing it with a bag of walnuts.

"wuz" Come the hell on. The person already punched 3 keys, might as well spell it correctly. Every time I see something like this, it makes me want to uppercut a baby seal.

I don't mind old threads if it's informative; reviews & technical issues.

This, though, is a bit odd... Like asking if helmets or seat belts are 'necessary.' I guess you could come up with some interesting counter arguments, but empirical evidence says otherwise.

It never bothers me.

I write a lot of articles and for the most part the information shared is written in a way to be accurate in the future as when it was written.

The exception would be new products or updated products but in most cases, the actual how-to information is accurate as is a lot of the peripheral information.

I say go for it.

:)
^^^ :goodpost: :iagree: ^^^

Great post!!! Glad it's still going strong.

And I totally stand by my opinion that they aren't indeed "necessary". Look at all the cars that haven't been treated still doing just fine.

Are they recommended?
-Sure

Are they mandatory?
-No

I don't mind old threads either... IF there is useful information to be gained.

Maybe that's short for Satire Rules???? :dunno: If not... ol' russ (as he spells it) might need a bit of tutoring from his local 4th grader on how to brush up his writing skills! ;)

But HEY... as he said... "any q's message me bro i'll teach ya to buff"

I imagine there is quite a line.
