Area Worse than Swirls on Vette

Mike, it does look like someone used a Brilo Pad or something like that to get some type of stain out.

It's happened many times to some poor victim of a car...


You can try fixing this by hand using some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound by hand or machine. Just proceed cautiously because if the clear layer is still intact it could be thinner in the scuffed areas. An electric polisher, like a PC, GG, 3401, Cyclo or even a carefully used rotary could also remove the scratching and scouring and restore a clear, glossy finish.

We have videos and articles that show how to polish paint by machine. Just ask and myself or someone can post the pertinent links.


Bring it by our Studio and I'll give you a hand undoing the damage...

Unfortunately the looks allot like who ever "buffed" it wore right through the clear.

Clear applied at the manufacturing facility are 0.001 or less in thickness or should I say "thinness"! Even though Corvette clears are reported to be very hard they will wear through especially with a rotary polisher..

If it is worn or burned through you should see a fine feathered edge where the clear is open to the color. Wet sanding with some 2000 then 3000 grit paper then polish with the appropriate pad and product combination should make it relatively transparent.

Mike, thanks for making pic esier to see. Flash, in the second from bottom row of window paines the middle and right paine have the worst area, it does look like a cloud sorry. The upper part of window reflection has two more areas in middle and right. I cann't get good pics right now as we are trying to dig out from the blizzard we had.

I see it now. Yea, definately looks like someone was rubbing hard with something. If your lucky, they were just applying Rocks-n-Bottle via hand, trying to remove a few scratches and just didn't follow up finishing it out :buffing:

So I thought I would update, my new 6" Griot's came in today with some CCS pads and the Wolfgang Swirl Remover Combo so I tackled the hood of my Vette. Good News! The areas that were dull came out after alot of work, I really thing someone took an abrasive pad to clean something off the hood because after the first attempt to remove you could see scratch marks that resembled someone rubbing by hand. I'll post some new pics tomorrow, just gald the hood is back to fairly normal, now I'm hooked on doing all of our cars
