Armor all question?

Like the others said, go to safeway and grab a Visa Gift card. It's basically a prepaid debit card.
I dont like it but its the only choice I have around here. (Own no credit or dept card to order online)

I recently stumbled along this great forum. After looking through a bunch of post I come to the conclusion that a lot of yall dont like armor all. Why is it so frowned upon?

It has it's uses, but I wouldn't use it on tires, the interior or count on it to last on exterior trim for very long.

There are quite a few better products out on the market that are in the same price range.

High dollar tire dressings, what's that? Great products like Pinnacle Black Onyx can be bought in a sample size (2 oz) for not a lot of money but last a long time. The initial application is more on the "shiney" side but not fake lookin' like AA. Driving a tire in the rain w/ Pinn Black Onyx will hold up great, with a tgood base laid down especially. Sure its not going to look exactly like the day you applied it but its still lookin' great!

Other tire gels like DP tire gel, Wolfgang Black Diamond and Griot's offer great looks, durability and adjustability depeending upon your wants/needs. Quality doesn't cost, it pays!

40-45 years ago, it was a revolutionary product. Vinyl and rubber dressings of that time were mostly coatings, similar to liquid floor wax. Advertised as a preservative, AA actually accelerated deterioration of some of the plastic and other soft materials used on cars of the 70's. As mentioned, it also left a slimy, greasy film that tended to attract dirt. It was actually better than other choices we had back in the day, but eventually other products came around that passed AA by.
You don't have to go online to find better products. The Meguiar's line, available locally, offers some very good choices at reasonable cost. Their Natural Shine and Supreme Shine dressings for interiors, their Ultimate line for exterior trim and their tire dressings are pretty darn good products. You'll also find some good stuff in the Mothers brand, as well as 303 Aerospace Protectant, carried by NAPA stores and the Duragloss products sold in CarQuest stores.
With all the different bands and acronyms tossed around here, it's easy to get the impression that AGO'ers are a bunch of snobs who pride themselves in using expensive high-end boutique products, but that's not really true. We're just a bunch of folks who take pride in our vehicles and are always on the hunt for a better way. Stick around, soak up the free exchange of information that takes place here and make your own informed choices.

Tuff Shine Tire CLearcoat will certainly last longer than a day in any environment. As will the gel offerings from Blackfire, Pinnacle, Wolfgang and Griot's Garage. I live on the coast with vehicles parked outside and am very pleased with the durability of the products mentioned above.

what i mean is yeah im sure there is stuff out there that will out last and preform over AA im sure of it. what im saying is since my truck stays clean for only two days it would look goofy for me if my truck was dirty but my tires were super clean and shiny lol. Im not advocating the product. I just think for me AA tire shine works how i personally want it to. I wouldnt want a tire shine to out last the shine of my paint. Now if i still lived in southern California where my truck stayed clean longer id have a completely different response to this thread lol.

My father in law heard I was attempting to start a detailing business and got me a whole plethora box set of armor all products for Xmas. He says it's "great stuff" lol old folks...

I got one of those for christmas a couple years ago. I just used the tire shine for wheel well liners this year.

I have been kicking around the idea of doing a blind test with their products to see if anyone could actually tell a difference. Just for grins.

Watch that "old folks" stuff. Yesterday was my birthday and now my age starts with a "6".
Actually, I should have listened to an old guy's advice about 35 years ago. I was sitting in a bar talking about waxes with a friend, having just finishing detailing up my boattail Riviera. An old guy interrupted and said "Collinite, kid, that's all you need". 30 years later, I wish I had listened to him. It would have saved me a lot of money and time, considering the array of OTC stuff available back then.

Little Armor All back story...

When Mt Saint Helens blew some years back and Eastern Washington was coated with 'volcanic ash' (that stuff got in to everything), where the auto parts stores had AA on the shelves, the ash did NOT stick to the metal shelving. Whatever was in the original product (silicone?) actually did some good.

Was kinda strange to see, all this gray ash stuck to whatever and wherever except where the AA was.
