At my wits end - wiper blades skipping!

Yet another shot-in-the-dark theory...could it be aerodynamics? Is this happening at speed, or while sitting stationary?

I had a similar problem year ago on a car, but it was the entire wiper and not one half of the blade. At speeds above 30~35 the air coming over the hood whould lift the blade slightly and cause it to chatter.

Replacing the blade with one that had some sort of aerodynamic feature that added down-force to the balde seemed to help.

It happens both when stationary and at speed.

I just ordered some Pinnacle water spot remover so I will machine polish the glass as soon as it warms up.

Taking it to the dealer on Tuesday for them to look at the wiper arm again.

Sorry about the issue OP but when you detail your car its a good idea to apply your LSP of choice to the windshield or whenever your bored, LOL!

I posted this in the last wiper blade chatter thread about a year ago.
I was a mechanic for Mercedes dealer.
Mercedes Benz has a tool and adjustment gauge that helps to adjust the wiper arm so it's 90 deg. To the windshield.. I would suggest twisting the thin metal on the wiper arm with a pair of pliers so you can get 90 deg.

I have in the past. That was the reason for the IPA wipe down after claying - to make sure everything was gone. I've tried Collinite 845, Son1c wax, and DP Glass Coating.

This topic has confirmed that it must be an alignment issue.

I'm uncomfortable bending it on my own, as it's still under warranty I'll let the dealer mess with that. As long as they don't wash it :xyxthumbs:

I know a few other members have already suggested that it's a mechanical issue. I would get it checked out...

If this is a mechanical problem, treating the windshield with anything in an attempt to remedy is an absolute waste of time(a psychological band-aid).

This is a really new car too, you shouldn't be at a point were polishing is necessary unless the glass is just a crap-quality or it hasn't been maintained properly.

I have taken care of the glass. The stock one just started skipping one day so I replaced it, thinking it was due to age. At this point it has to be mechanical.


Also, an update based on the replies in this thread.
There is a large variance between the pressure on the top side of the arm compared to the bottom side. The top half of the blade will pin my finger against the glass pretty firmly, while the bottom half of the wiper blade just rests on my finger. So it appears that this is most definitely an alignment/pressure distribution issue.
