Whats up guys, i havent posted on here in a long time due to school, work, and side jobs. Anyways, this is my dads new project car. He picked it up for 9k. Its a 1971 Chevrolet El Camino with 350(completely rebuilt)/350 turbo tranny.
The paint looked horrrrrible, original paint, sinlge stage. Its getting repainted in a year. he wants to do the engine (454 blower swap), brakes, and suspension before he paints it. So he just wanted it to look decent in the mean time. The paint is pretty jacked. Chips everywhere, horrible touch up everywhere, sucked up bondo scratches, you name it.
Its not perfect but looks much better. My dad was pretty stoked tho with the outcome.
Onto the pics, i didnt get very many due to i just bought a new camera and forgot to grab a bigger memory card.

Process-
my dad washed it for me the night before.
correction was men. SIP/ LC green light cutting pad- makita 1500 rpms
Men nano/ LC white polishing pad UDM speed 6
3M ultrafina/ LC blue finesse pad Makita 600 rpms
topped with WG DGPS cured for 24hrs then topped with Souveran

Hope you enjoy

That is a great car. Nice detail job with it as well

Nice car for 9K. Wish I could find one like that! I sold my 68 camaro for that in 1997 thinking i would buy another one in a few years......Well I am in the market now but the cost of them has skyrocketed! my same car goes for about 24,000 now!!!! However I am going to hold off for a while because of the economy I think the price on musclecars will fall like a rock. Being they are "fun" toys people will be trying to sell them for quick cash and with gas at 4 bucks a gallon they are not too appealing anymore as a weekend cruisers!

You did a great job with the paint til it gets worked on....
Its funny to see the condition of the paint. Guys who like hot rods are not the best with keeping swirls out of the paint!

Nice work! Nice car! :righton:

I love working on single stage paints! You should give Meguiars #7 a try on her, it works wonders on black SS paints!

I know what you mean. My dad has been looking for a el co for about a year. this one was by far the cleanest all around and the cheapest. it was deff a steal considering it doesnt need much work besides new paint.
Your totally right. I just went to a car show last weekend. I have jobs lined up for the next couple months on hot rods. I just setted up a little booth, did a couple examples on different cars. people were amazed lol. gotta love it.

Nice work! Nice car! :righton:

#7 has nothing on souveran.especially when your talking about a black car.

Nothing but Souveran on my black SS also. Why mess with success. Easy on, Easy off. Super depth and gloss.

Isn't Souveran a wax??? #7 is a pure polish that is to be used before waxing for added depth and gloss.

sounds like apples to oranges.

with a clean paint surface souveran looks amazing by itself.also in the past iv had nothing but trouble trying 2 mix meguiars products with others that arent made my meguiars.so to save time just put on Souveran and call it a day.

Right on. I wasn't arguing how well Souveran works. I simply suggested that the OP try a pure polish on his single stage paint, as SS paints tend to benefit greatly from the polishing oils found in #7.

thats fine i wasnt trying to argue myself.i just saw he used souveran on it.only thing is iv heard alot of people say that #7 is outdated but i havent used it myself because iv had problems applying wax after id use #3 or #4 that wasnt made by meguiars.whats in #7 that u wouldnt find in other polishes?

The technology in #7 has been around for a long time, but it was also designed when single stage paints were being used, which was why I recommended it.

I'm sure other companies make similar pure polishes that work very well. I just have more experience with Meguiar's, and obviously they have been around a LOT longer than the other companies.

Here is some good reading on the Meguiars Pure Polishes.

Here was the last SS paint car I did. All of the products I used were very rich in the same polishing oils found in #7

Few things about #7 , it is packed with oils, lots of oils, lots of guys that polish by hand prefer #7, has NO protection in it so top with a LSP.

PS car looks great, my dad had one when I was growing up that looked like that one. Those were great cars or as we would call it today, a cross over vehicle!
