Recently I was asked by AOLs Autoblog if I'd be in a segment of their "1001 Car Things To Do Before You Die" I was referred to them by Todd Cooperider of Esoteric Auto Detailing.

After a few phone calls with the producers I was told that I was going to be featured on one of their episodes. I was flattered and super excited.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do or even how to prepare for the shoot. I did take with me some advice Mike Phillips gave me. He said for me to just be myself, and to slow down my speaking so I wouldn't studder or get tongue tied.

We filmed for over 5 hours. I went over nearly everything you would need to know on exterior detailing. It is understandable that so much got cut out but I think they did a pretty good job of "telling the story."

Seems like lots of people that watched it are actually expecting to see how to photograph your car and most of the video is about detailing it instead. The title doesn't represent the bulk of the video content. Maybe they should have recorded a separate episode just for detailing and name it, "How to create a Superior Shine."

All in all it was super fun working with Jesse and Patrick and the entire filming crew. I'd do something like this again in a heart beat!

Please click this pic below to be taken to the video page.

Here I am going over the various polishers with Jesse.

In the pic we are filming and I am trying to keep from laughing. It felt weird being in front of the camera and all the fuss.

Of course very soon into the shoot I was relaxed and I had everybody laughing over one thing or another.

List of Car things to do before I die:

1. Be recognized enough as a detailer to be approached for video appearances.

PROPS. I'm very happy for you.

Quick edit:
Just watched the whole video. Awesome detail examples. I've seen cars in person that looked horrible, but with the right photographer and picture editing software, they look mint. So I agree they should have done two separate episodes.

Just watched the vid. Very nice! Excellent tips. You appeared very professional and knowledgeable.

Move over Mike Phillips, there's a new man in town! ;)

Well done Joe :xyxthumbs:

Congratulations Joe!

All the time I've known you you've always practiced something I try to practice and that's simply doing good honest hard work and helping others reach their goals, whether that's polishing their car or sharing with them how they can polish their car and all your "good" work has paid off.

My definition of luck goes like this,

"Preparedness meets opportunity"

By that definition, you were lucky and you earned it.

Very nice video Joe!! Congrats!! I've followed your threads over the years and have learned a ton advanced techniques from them. I am truly grateful for guys like you!! You are definitely the right guy for such a video. I know there will be more too. Anxiously awaiting the next one. TD

I agree about the 2 video segments for sure and BTW, Jessie's pretty cute, how about inperson?

Awesome! I thought they did a pretty get job showing your process.

So what kind of pad were you using during the claying process to remove contaminants?

Poor choice of title for the video.

It should have been detailing related. That would have drawn a more appreciative crowd.

But I would be far more excited to be in a Video with Jessi Combs.

A hot chick that can weld and fabricate! I can't imagine anything better. And did I mention that I think she's HOT.

I like her much more than her two co-hosts on All Girls Garage.

Great vid, very informative and you sounded every bit as professional as you are on here. Congrats!

Great video, congrats and thanks for sharing. The only critique I have is that I think they should have split up the detailing segment and photographing segment into two separate videos and devoted more time to both.

Congrats Joe,

Where ever I have read your posts on the web they have been insightful and honest. It's not too hard to see why Todd gave you the rec.

Thanks guys for the compliments. It was a blast. They cut out tons of "funny." I had the crew in stitches but I guess it was too much for such a short program. It was great fun and I'd do something like that in a heart beat!
