Hello all. I am looking for some advice on carpet cleaning. I do not have an extractor and I'm not planning on buying one due to the fact that I do this more as a hobby and would rarely use it.

What I do have is...

Some good carpet cleaners (I sell flooring for a living)
A shop vac
A PC w the aqua brush attachment.

Rags, towels, etc.

My instinct tells me to vacuum, spray the cleaner and let it soak per the cleaners directions, brush w the PC (not really If there is a proper speed I should use), and vacuum again.

I've been cleaning the carpets in my own cars lately and they definitely show improvement. But when I'm done there is usually still a lot of dirt on the surface and the stains don't want to seem to budge. Bottom line...I feel like I can do much better with what I have.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have no issue buying some new tools but spending hundreds on an extractor isn't something I want to do.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! :xyxthumbs:

If your good carpet cleaner is Folex, sounds like you are on track. I suggest a fairly slow speed on the brush. I tried to use a brush on a drill and made a mess. Now I have a Cyclo and use a low speed and it works great.

+1 for Folex, Home Depot or Lowe's carries it. Krud Kutter Original is another great product found at the same places.

folex works great, i personaly use meguiars APC+ diluted at 10:1 and spray on carpets and use a brush to agitate the surface, i let the cleaner dwell for a few minutes to work then agitate. then i will use my shop vac using a carpet cleaner nozzle(one from a bissel that was set out for curbside pickup took the nozzles!) the nozzles really help concentrate the suction and suck up more dirt and grime, then i will take my bottle of clean purified water and spray carpet again to "rinse" it. works great for me..worth a try if you can get the nozzles for cheap/free :) good luck!

You need an extractor or some type of water rinse otherwise u will get average results... Today I tried to foam clean a seat that had white grey and blue threading .. Well the white looked brown and foaming cleaned it up but it just wasn't good enough.. Busted out the dreaded extractor and just extracting and rinsing brought back the colors and sucked out all the dirt
Before I got my extractor I would use a hand water pump and sho vac
