AutoGeek is a RIPOFF!

My Dad's friend growing up said warsh, I grew up in Detroit. My wife's Grampa says warsh, life long Chicagoian.

Does he have a French model girlfriend and believe that everything on the net is true too. LOL

I feel blessed... My neighbor came over one day and said, "The next time you make an order to that place, get one of those bug sponges you have and some of that wash stuff you use for me."

That dialect isn't exclusive to the south or Misery. I grew up in Illinois and was taught that George Warshington was our first president.:)

Well, actually- my wifes entire family says warsh and my wife occasionally does too. It's a pet peeve of mine. But then, my Great Grandma was an English professor at Washington University, my Great Uncle was an English teacher (turned real estate agent) at a South St.Louis County high school, and so on and so forth. So- not that my grammar is without flaws (especially on the internet where I'm prone to typos); but things like "warsh" wouldn't fly in my family! LOL. Which is unfortunate because it drives me NUTS and just about everyone around me says it.

Well when you have a parking lot full of peeling, leaking, dirty cars- conversations about car care aren't likely.

I would probably drive you up the proverbial pet peeve-wall...
what with my "Appalachian English", et al. Where do you want to meet-up at? LOL

If I remember correctly...
More often than not when I'm either conversing with AGO forum members in person or on the phone:
They are quite taken aback by my "drawl", and my usage of Hillbilly/Redneck/Briar-phrases.

YEP!! I be one of "those folks", but currently living in Ohio...A Buckhopper, steady as it goes.

I embrace the fact that different "language communities" have certain ways of talking
that set them apart from others:
I can't ever find within myself, to be derisive towards their dialects.

Come to think about it:
Doesn't the AGO forum "community", in a certain way, have a different "language"?

Should people be encouraged to eliminate "nonstandard ways" of speaking?

:)

Many aspects of the English Language today have aspects that were colloquial at one time. Just because it bothers me doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong or should be corrected. It just bothers me- that's all! LOL.

I'm quite certain that I have mannerisms that bother other people too. That's what makes this world go round. We all keep bugging each other :)

Embrace the difference. When my wife and I lived in Chicagoland, friends used to say that they loved getting our answering machine and listening to her (SC/NC) drawl. It embarrassed her, but I love her southern bell sound.

As much as I am geek about taking care of my car, isn't it kind of hypocritical that we point and laugh at the man that simply doesn't care? There will always be people who don't understand why we do the things we do and ridicule us, which is totally fine. Haters gonna hate. But when we understand that he, and a huge majority of the population doesn't care about their cars condition, and still make fun of them, it really brings us down to their level if not worse. I see a lot of "detailers" write some nasty comments on youtube videos about what people are doing wrong and it really comes off snobby and makes us seem like "know-it-alls". Just food for thought.

Oh I agree. Not everyone wants to do a 2 bucket wash or invest in high quality car care stuff and it doesn't make them idiots, even if it isn't what you are I would do.

The point of my story was that this guy came out of his way to tell me that I was being ripped off and that waterless wash was nothing but windex or pine sol. In other words, we are all being lied to when we are told we need to use premium products to protect the finish on our cars. And that does get annoying as we've all probably had someone tell us we are 'wasting our money' or whatever in the way we care for our cars. Or, better yet, "Mine looks just as good and I just take it to the car wash!", which is a bit insulting giving the hard work we put in keeping our finish great.

That said, you are right! I don't argue with people about it. Frankly I don't care how they care for their cars. I'll continue to use premium oil changed frequently, good quality tires, and will continue to care for the finish as best I know how. I'll also continue to sell my cars for peak market value and have them last reliability for me for many years! What everyone else does is more skin of my nose! Just makes mine more valuable when it comes time to sell.

There are "Cliff Clavens" on everything. Whenever someone starts talking as an authority about something that it is obvious they know nothing about I just remember that and listen in amazement to their willingness to share their lack of knowledge.

There are some whom DO know what they're talking about, like the average AG'er talking about detailing and then the guy the OP is talking about butts in, goes against this statement but only in this situation. I do agree with you though.

Just to clarify, I was talking about his neighbor that knows he is is using Windex or Pine Sol.

Maybe I should use ONR next since it's blue. He'll think I have windex in a bucket!

So glad I don't talk to my neighbors. I like it that way.

Everyone thinks that detailing is a waste of time or that your delusional or obsessed until they want their car done. Everyone wants their car to look like mine do. "Wish my car was that clean", "I need my car done like that"

I catch crap from family and friends all the time because I "waste" so much time cleaning my rides. They can't believe how much money I spend on products. When my last order of towels came in they were Floored when I spent around 100 bucks on em. If I had a quarter for every time someone said "you're gonna wash the clear coat off that thang" I'd be rich. Last week my sister in law said that my car probably has a lot of swirl marks because I wash it all the time lol. I enlightened her on how a regular and good washing technique actually prevents paint damage.

And to comment on the accents and usage of words such as warsh lol I'm from southeastern ky, I have as bad of an accent as can be. Most of you probably need subtitles to understand what I'm saying haha

He then asked me if he owed my something, I said $125.00, he dame near fell over then I said JK but never question my work or my products:)

My answer would have been what you said but I wouldhave had to add, what do you think anyone else has to pay?

Really though my guys at work think nuts, they're like how much did you pay for that MF towel?

One of my guys told me once he'd never let me touch his bike with my high end products.
Well guess what?
He got home only to find his daughter washing his new 2013 Harley with an old red shop rag and swirled it up big time.
First he went to the Harley shop and bought some Harley Swirl Remover but it didn't do anything.
The next morning he comes in my office and ask if he could talk with me about his problem , I said sure have a seat.

He didn't just come out and ask me to help him oh no if he did he'd have to eat crow. Lol
So he asked , what would remove the swirls?
I said not sure and left it at that.
The next morning I brought over my PC with my four inch pads, my Über Compound, WGGPS and a few MF towels.
I got him to park his bike in the motor room, then I went in there and did a RW, clayed the entire bike, put on a white hex logic pad using the WG Über , a few passes and they were all gone, then I sealed it with the WGGPS , we then brought in out into the sun, to his disbelief he said man that's some good stuff, where can I buy it?

Oh that is just too good Kevin!

Go back and read this thread I did back in March. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...exus-es350-they-say-you-can-t-fix-stupid.html

I've known this guy since high school (mid 70's) and he's exactly the same way. He'll spend money on everything but ANYTHING that stands for quality. Nice TV, nope.... not going to happen. Not when a cheap one will do. Surround sound you say? Nope, TV speakers will do. (Actually in March he pointed out that he had one of those "receiver things" for movies.) Even managed to have three tiny front speakers stuffed in an entertainment unit. No subwoofer and NO rear surround sound speakers EITHER! (Said it takes too many wires.) I told him that without the rear surround channels he might as well not even have the fronts, he's missing 40% of the sound. I even went as far as to tell him he can get WIRELESS rear speakers these days. He said, "No need in all that, it's just a lot of noise." I snit you not!

He once bought a boat (nice walk through, snap out carpets, IB/OB engine, PS, all the goodies) that COULD NOT GET WET! Parked the boat in the garage and BOTH cars in the driveway under the trees.... for TWO YEARS!

Has a big black HD as well, big ol' 'lectra glide. (And he's 5'7" tall!) Washes it with warsh rags. (Check my old thread to see what he found to wash his Lexus with!)

I was blown away back in March when we went out in his Polaris 800 Ranger and he actually drove it in the MUD of all places! WOW! After all, had a boat that couldn't get wet. ;)

But seriously, some just don't get it. I could do 1 paint correction a month just from one guy I know, what with muscle cars dating from the 60's to brand new and make a profit for the whole year just on his cars. But he'd rather wipe them with a rag and spray some OTC 'wax' on them than pay any REAL attention to the paint. :dunno: As long as they are *CLEAN* when he goes to drive one THAT is ALL that matters.

"Shiny" is the word he uses. He just wants them "shiny", and if that happens to be swirled half way to the moon and back he tends not to notice. He'll pay $100 to wash them, do a quick interior wipe, and shine the tires and never notice (as they say) a swirl from a squirrel. Who knows? ;)
