AutoGeek's packing material? Meghan/Max

I must say aswell.. I'm not a fan of the packing peanuts BUT autogeek sure does ship their stuff very well. None of the products I ordered seemed to have even budged an inch during shipping when I opened the box so I do appreciate their shipping skills and method.
Good job you guys. I'll take the packing peanuts any day over one with a bottle of wax that has exploded/leaked? due to not have packing peanuts. Keep up the good shipping.

I request brown paper on my orders from AG but my last shipment (came today) came in with the peanuts. I wonder if there has been any cost analysis done to see if the styrofoam peanuts could be replaced with cornstarch ones. They are similarly effective and dissolve in water. Or can be reused just as the styrofoam ones are.

The clear issue with going with cornstarch peanuts is that they are slightly more expensive, and they don't hold up as well if a product has leakage. This could be solved by sealed ziplock bags but that further reduces margin. This made the rounds on another forum recently, and as I said there, I would be willing to opt-in for a "green" option where I was charged slightly more for using more eco-friendly products. I realize there is an increase in consumable costs as well as labor so I would be willing to offset that to a degree. But I think it's going to take a lot of us to say we'd support it before it could becomme a viable business move for AG.

i don't see what the big deal is, just put them in a bag and donate them to your nearest local post office store. the thing about the peanuts is that they provide good cushioning and are very lightweight as well...

I like throwing the peanuts all over the living room floor when i get a box from ag!!! it adds to the excitement, until i have to pick them all up. but i reuse them to ship out auto parts

Styrofoam in any form is not recyclable. I always request recycled packaging and have never had a problem. I applaud AG for offering the choice to the customer.

Do not get me wrong I am in no way dissing peanuts it is just that I prefer the brown paper packing that I can recycle.

At my work they say they collect the polystyrene packaging that products come in to recycle and they encourage us to bring in polystyrene packaging from home so it can be recycled too...I don't know how they can recycle it but they say they do.

When I got my order I had no problems with the peanuts. I can understand your annoyance with the mess though, I just picked them up, no biggie :D ......but I could really see the amount of protection afforded by them and I really appreciated it.

I recycle the peanuts. I re-use them when I ship stuff to other people. yes they are a bit messy to handle but they do not have to end up in a land fill just because AG sent them to you.

All you have to do to recycle styrofoam peanuts is use them over again. They can be used over and over again. That's what recycling is all about.

I am big into recycling and reusing. The city and county I live in are not equipped to recycle Styrofoam. Clearly a lot of members like the protection afforded by the peanuts. I am just happy that AG does give us a customer choice option.

I'm thinking maybe you can do "assorted nuts", or change
nuts each month--peanuts, almonds, brazil, etc.

take the peanuts and put them in an empty gallon with the top cut open. Then poor a solvent like a tar remover, wax and grease remover, or even thinner and they will turn to liquid. It doesn't take very much solvent do a whole box worth. Then just set the jug some where and let the goo dry and throw away.

^ Now that is a PIA if you ask me!

So if bubble wrap is the safest, you'd be OK if the UPS guy chucked your bubble-wrapped jar of Fuzion out of his truck at 50 miles per hour? Somehow I sense impending danger for an unsuspecting brown truck driver in that scenario.

The bad news: Packing peanuts suck. I hate them too. I cant break down my boxes for storage because they are housing these little gremins. You open a box and about 50 of them blow everywhere.....then the dogs get freaked out and try to attack them, each other and then me. You cant pour them into bags because again they blow everywhere. Im not spending my gas to drive them to ups, Im not wasting chemicals to melt them down. Brown paper is just fine. I dont need a box of peanuts for an order of pads.

The good news: AG has the best customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. Hands down. They deserve my business and have it forever. Their shipping times are extremely fast and they accomodate their customers every wish. I cant say enough good things about AG. My orders have always been perfect. And the support is top notch. I had a glass pad recently that came apart and they threw a free one in my last big order. No hassle. I love AG and I cant wait to drive 3.5 hours to meet them in person for Detail Fest '10. :xyxthumbs:

Not a fan of the packing peanuts either, but I'd rather have my products ship safely and arrive to me undamaged. Filing a claim with UPS is a HUGE hassle.

I wish more companies would use the same quality shipping standards AuutoGeek uses! Great shipping and careful packaging adds to the excellent customer service we all receive from AG. Keep it up guys and give the shipping department a pay raise! LOL :dblthumb2:

no no....give the shipping guys a free bottle of polish or something....a raise would mean price hikes for us!

The packing peanuts kept all the big boxes inside the big box in one place, but one of my bottles had a big crack and leaked a bit out..

Didn't seem too serious.. so I taped it back up. Didn't leak out a lot either.

I like the packing peanuts because I can recycle them when I ship stuff for eBay later. I don't have to go looking for newspapers or other materials!

As for peanuts flying out when opening the box, I guess try not to open it with fans blowing nearby or outside on a windy day :D

I just poured them into a big bag to keep until needed.

Just an FYI for you guys, we use several different forms of packing material depending on whats shipping. But if you prefer one method over the other just put a note in your comments box and we will use that method. We have peanuts, bubble wrap and paper! When shipping chemicals we have to use what will get them there the safest, but if you have a preference just let us know on your order.
