AutoRama Detroit

Cardaddy.....you get it!

I had to deal with the "Woodward Avenue" generation at the local cruize nights when I had an 87' Grand National, modded and running mid 12's and a semi-daily driver.....

Been dealing with ignorant dinasours for years and its never going to change!

Roger you know, that car remnds me of the first one I ran across owned by a local radio personality Gary McKee. (He was #1 for 18 years running from 74 to 92) Met him at one of those streetside broadcasts one morning, (driving a tricked out rollback). He had a brand new one sitting there that he had 'tweaked' (added boost, water/alcohol injection, rear gear+posi, suspension etc) before he ever took delivery. We ended up talking during commercials and I hung around till the show was over. Once the show was packing up we went for a ride and wasted about 20,000 miles of rubber in less than 10 miles! ;) Considering I was driving the nicest looking rollback he'd ever seen I ended up getting his business. ;)

BTW, in 2010 one brought $132K at Barrett Jackson!

OTOH I had to stop hanging around so much in the G Forum because while AGO is expensive, keeping up with those guys is INSANE! What, a 3.5L V6 putting out 600HP at the wheel!

CarDaddy, I believe you and I are on the same page!! :props:

I remember stopping by Tasca Ford in East Providence RI looking at a brand new 1970 Boss 429 Mustang. I "believe" the sticker was about $4900 which was way too high for my budget in those days..... I cay again......

Yup, (and even though you've got 5 years on me) ;) we were NUTS not to hold on to several of the cars we went through back then. :dunno:

Besides the 67GTO, that was FREE (from her parents) I bought/sold/traded all the time. My dad was so upset because by the time I turned 18 I had 2 cars and 2 motorcycles (I had owned 4 cars total by then) he started charging me rent! (Which he gave back to me and then some when we bought our first house.) :xyxthumbs: One that I didn't really like but has a cult following now was an Alabama State Patrol Javelin. Mine was a very rare unmarked unit that had been bought at an auction, then I traded a Comet GT (the one that'd pull the front wheels) for it. Took that and bought a almost brand new 73 GTO. Certainly not the goats from the late 60's of old but it was a really good cruiser car with a huge back seat. ;) :)

Oh well.... live n' learn they say.

An Alabama state patrol Javelin, now that's a "rare" car. Oh and BTW, the Grand National was a 3.8 litre engine, not 3.5....for the record, LOL.

Bobby, how old were you in 1970? Based on your avatar picture, I'd put you around my age (46).

  1. I graduated high school in 1970
  2. My avatar is 2011
  3. I am 60
  4. Thank you for the complement!!

The 3.5 I was referring to was in the G35. Hard to keep up with those guys that are doing big turbo kits and pumping out 550 HP, much less those that spend another 20K in upgrades, twin-screws, suspension, axles, wheels, blah blah blah and end up at 800 +

Heck... this morning I had to go get my monthly back injections downtown and was sittig at the end of my street fussing with my sunglasses when a FedEx truck pulled up behind me. So I hit my blinker, eased out to the left in 1st, double pumped the clutch into 2nd and almost WRECKED the da#$% thing! Back end whipped out to the right, OK I got this, then it swung around to the left and I thought I was gonna' hit the curbs back on the RIGHT side of the road with both LEFT wheels... IOW's, facing backwards with my wheels folded up underneath me! *&^%$#@!@#$%^&*

I said in an earlier thread how much better these new Michelins ride but I'm not exactly thrilled with the handling and grip. Well THIS was what I was talking about, YIKES!!!:awman: Funny thing is.... didn't leave hardly any rubber at all on the road. Just cold tires, and traction control off (as I have a habit of doing). Lesson learned, the rest of the winter I'll leave the VDC on till the tires heat up. Holy $hit that was scary!:o

Always leave the TC on but when your ready for new tires give the Conti DWS' a try, best tire on the market!
