I'm coming into a few hundred bucks and am debating on upgrading my interior carpet techniques. Currently I have a bissel hot water automotive extractor. It does ok but it's very limited. Usually I use my heavy duty shop vac and a small bucket of water and a grout brush (with folex or similar fabric product) results are decent. I just don't want to drop 500 on a hot water extractor that isn't all that much better than my current set up.

I've also been debating a commercial steamer for ALL interior cleaning. I wish I could use each one a few times to see how they work. But I don't have access so I need your input. Thanks.

I had the same debate with myself and fellow AG members about a month ago? For me, I decided to go for the Mytee Lite II. It will help me cut my carpet cleaning time in half and I think I can really upself carpet extraction in my details so for me its a better choice. A steamer would really help with interior cleaning but I don't know if it would have as good of a "pay for it self" factor. The VX5000 is my next purchase though :)

I don't know if when I got my extractor I can say it cut my time in half....I'd say it still takes just as long. I love my steamer and I think you can get more uses out of the steam than you can the extractor- Just my 2 cents.

Steamer.. hands down.

If you have a shop vac and brushes you can make do. But my steamer is great on glass, gum in carpet, mashed crayon in headliners (long story). Basically my point is the steamer has so many uses.

Also if you have a PC, the cyclo brushes are great on carpets and fabric.

I have the Aztec Hot Rod Hot Spotter extractor. It is a very nice piece of equipment. It heats up pretty quick too. it was very expensive. $645. I have not complaints about it.
I purchased a McCulloh Steamer at Harbor Freight over a year ago for $ 85 with a coupon. I must say that the steamer is alot faster. It also does not get the carpet, upholstry, mats too wet. It is also great on red spills, gum, and especially cloth seating. I rarely use it on head liners. The steam ruins the liner adhesive. If i had known then I would have bought a commercial steamer and passed on the extractor. I am mobile ,so I still carry both. If i have fithy dirty mats I use the extractor.
