Hi All,

I've been slowly working on a 02' BMW E39 and have worked my way to the B pillars. When I went for an initial inspection with a light I noticed what seemed to be water spots that seemed really deep? There are some drip marks that make it look more like it's embedded into the paint somehow. This is occurring on both sides of the car. I hit it with some m205 and a 3" DA and white pad to see if could be cleared but to no avail.

Any ideas on what that is and how I might be able to remove it?

Thank you

Have you tried a water spot remover for paint?

Definitely water spots. Take a look at this great article by Mike Phillips: 3 - Types of Water Spots - Type I, Type II and Type III

You should be able to get those out by hand or dual action polisher with a cleaner/wax, or something that has abrasives. As always, I'd start with least aggressive as rsurfer points out. There are two really good water spot removers one by McKee's and the other by CarPro (CarPro Water Spot Remover). I have used both, and I have to say, CarPro was very effective. I'd start there, and if required move onto a light polish.

Hope this helps!

Thank you both. I'll try the CarPro Water Spot remover to see what happens but based on that article by Mike - if I have type III water spots I will need to abrade the paint. Not fun :(
