Back from the dead....in a new country!

Hey guys!

It's been a while since I last made a post. I now live in Germany from New Mexico and all I can say is GREEN! lots and lots of grass and trees everywhere!

I noticed there's quite a few car brands aren't available in the US such as Puegeot, Skôda, Opel, and newer Suzuki vehicles.

I sold my last vehicle back in the states and bought an 05' Audi A4 station wagon and it's in need of some paint correction. I whipped out the Rupes MK II 15" but I realized that it's only 120v..... and all the outlets here are 220v.

I can technically use a transformer but the motor would only work at 80% of it max power. Basically using anything with a motor with a transformer can cause some issues down the road.

I also have a Rupes iBrid Long Neck and I haven't checked to see if it was dual voltage or not.

I'm here to ask for some help on what I should do? I'll be in Germany for 4 years and I want to start my side business back up but all my main tools are kind of useless here.

Should I just fork out the money for a Euro-specced flex 3401/Rupes? Only problem with that is it won't work when I go back to the states...

I would sell it all and start your future with a clean slate.
Four years is a long time.
 
Completely different over in Germany eh? Especially from New Mexico.

Are you on base or off? Whereabouts are you? Make sure you get out and explore Europe as much as you can!

I too was in the same boat as you with my tools. Luckily for me I lived on base and had access to 110v. I would not run the tools from a transformer. I reached out to FLEX tools while I was over there and was advised not to use a transformer as it would take out the speed control on the units.

I really don't know anyone here that would buy both my rupes iBrid and mk2. The norm here is to take your car to an automatic car wash and maul you're vehicle's clear coat.

Completely different from New Mexico and I'm 100% happier here! Seeing grass, trees, and actual cities again has a positive effect on my mood and lifestyle. I don't have to travel an hour and a half to go food shopping at Costco anymore. I can just go down to another village and buy groceries at a local bakery.

I'm stationed at Ramstein but I live off base. I didn't realize how bad it would be to have 220v outlets instead of 110v until I brought out all my power tools, appliances, and electronics. My wife almost caught the kitchen on fire because she plugged in a toaster that was rated at 110v LOL.

I have yet to see a house with 110v. It's like a unicorn here!

I know what you mean. I was at Ramstein from 05-08 then to Nellis for 5 years and on to Spangdahlem in 13. I really miss Germany.

Wow! Don't do that again! Im sure the toaster is toast! lol

Base housing has both 110v and 220v. At least on Spang they did.

That's awesome! You got pretty lucky with those bases. The base that I just left in Clovis, New Mexico had guys that have been there 10+ years without getting orders anywhere else. I feel for them....

I went and asked people who lived on Vogelweh and Ramstein and they all have 110v outlets! I'm super jealous right now.

I guess I'll have to save up for a European spec flex 3401 as well as a smaller orbital.

Yep. They have access to 110v.

Hey there is a car show coming up on Ramstein put on by the 86VRS. Go over and check it out. Also make sure to get up to the Nurburgring while you are in Germany.
