Back in Black! 1969 GTO!!!

Den, short for Dennis, joined our forum in April of 2013. His first post was when he signed up for our Thursday Night projects to help buff out the North Miami Police Mobil Command Unit, this project.

In fact, here's a picture of Den working on Mobil Command Unit...

At the time, I didn't know the specific reason Den started attending our Thursday night classes except he wanted to learn how to polish paint.

Later, I found out the reason he wanted to learn how to polish paint was so that he would have the skills and knowledge to both perfect the custom paint job being planned for his 1969 GTO and then how to maintain it after he made it perfect.

That's the story behind the story. But there's more...

Den had a black 1969 GTO in High School and decided to recreate his high school car because it was his dream car back then and he wanted to get the dream back.

Here's two pictures Den sent me from his high school days...

This is classic....

Since the first Thursday night class Den has been a regular for almost all of our projects, here's just a few to give you the idea...

Den was attending our Thursday night classes to hone his skills to be able to tackle his own car, a GTO painted in SINGLE STAGE URETHANE BLACK PAINT!

Probably one of the hardest paints to create a perfect, flawless finish on...

Here's some pictures of Den working on some of the projects we've pumped out of our garage in the last year...

And here's why.... this is Den's recreation of the car he had in high school, a 1969 GTO.

This car has a brand new custom paint job by one of our local body shops. The painted it and then wetsanded, cut and buff the paint and then Den took over.

While they did a great job, a body shop can only go so far, that's where Den took over and using Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover, Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish and then sealing the paint with Pinnacle Souverän Paste Wax, Den has created a true flawless show car finish on black paint.

Nick and Jason were here when he brought it by and they saw what my camera captured....

Check this bad boy out....

Very nice work Den!

Looking forward to work on Den`s GOAT.I ask him every Thursday night makeovers as to when it`s going to happen. Are we close and is he going to handle the cut and buff and we finish the car?You earned it Den.Tim.

I guess I was four minutes too late and got my answer.Bummer. Beautiful car Den.

Nice! Great looking ride. In particular I note that in the photo reflections of things with crisp edges such as the banners, there are no jaggy edges due to the effects of orange peel that you typically see.

Im sure Dennis has learned how to polish paint a lotttt faster and better than most of us guys here who learn through videos lol. The perks of living next to AG Headquarters!

neat story and love the car :D

Beautiful work buddy, we'll I guess we won't be doing this one on Thursday night. The car is definitely a beautiful looking classic ride. See you at the next Thursday night makeover.

Big Pontiac fan here. That is one gorgeous car.
Would love to know what's under the hood.

Nothing better for a 'student' than to get his evolution recognized by the master. And only a true master can recognize the student's evolution. 'Mike' went further on this: not only recognized Den's work but also shared by his own this beautiful story of dedication. Wonderful work.

Thank you for sharing this very 'motivational' topic. This keeps us (forever apprentices) moving on!

Kind Regards.

Stunning! That paint looks beautiful, but I have to agree those wheels aren't my style. A more modern wheel would look fantastic on it.

Exactly right, a modern wheel fits that car big time.

I had the pleasure to see Den's GTO yesterday and pictures do it no justice!
This paint is flawless!
Single stage paint was cut and buffed and Den finished it off beautifully!
Best of luck with your Goat and hope I get a ride in it soon!

Exactly.

It was clouding when I took the picture outside and if you look you'll see the bay door was open when I took the pictures inside and this always causes some wackiness in the inside pictures.
(Healthy exhaust fumes from the engine kept me from closing the bay door).

This paint is flawless!

Thanks for adding that Robert as a pro detailer you have an eye for flawless paint.

People ask about what the best paint system is to go with for the blackest black and I always say go single stage urethane and Den's GTO proves it.

No clear coat = no plasticy look.

Just deep, dark pure blackness...

We'll have Den and his GTO back for a project in the future, right now we're just too busy due to the Christmas holiday season to do much in the way of project.

But Den's GTO will be back...

:xyxthumbs:
