Does the Flex 3401 come with a 5.5" or a 6" backing plate? Can I ask for one or the other when I order? Because I see some of the kits come with a 6" backing plate. I use the 7.5" hex logic pads and would like the 6" backing plate

at first they use to come with the bigger 6" backing plate with the red velcro bottom. since then, it's been upgraded with the 5.5" backing plate that comes standard with it now. that's the only difference, everything else is identically the same. if you decide to buy the flex, pick up an extra spare backing plate as you never know what can happen these days...

The replacement backing plate says 6" thats why I'm confused!! Flex XC 3401 VRG 6 inch Backing Plate

the backing plate pictured in the link above is the one that currently comes with the Flex (description should be changed to 5.5" rather than 6"). here's a description from another online source....

This is the authentic factory replacement backing plate for the Flex XC3401VRG polisher with the hock and loop backing and gearwheel mount. The XC3401VRG Backing Plate is 5.5" in diameter just like the one that comes with the polisher.

This backing plate is specifically designed for the Flex XC3401VRG and cannot be used on other polishers. The XC3401VRG cannot used with other backing plates because of the gearing mechanism.

Im up to page 7 on the Flex forum and I can't seem to find how to use a 5" plate or 5.5" pads with the Flex, could anyone give me a hand here?

I am with ya here. I want to upgrade to the flex and have a ton of LC 5.5 pads. I would hate to have to get all new pads.

some people use the 5.5 in pads but they cut the backing plate to use it...just gotta be careful when u cut it.. or u'll buy another backing plate to try again or just use the 5.5 in backing plate

I took my original and cut it down with my dremel so I can use 5.5 pads. I also bought a replacement so I can use my 6.5s. I have yet to put my larger pads on since I performed the surgery. But everyone is correct the factory and replacement has a diameter of 5.5"
