Should the backing plate be the same size as the pad or are certain pads not actually true to size? Someone else mentioned they had a 5" pad that was really 5.5" when measured. The LC backing plate says their 5" works with 5.5" or 6.5" pads. The new Meg's DA kit recommends their 6" BP with the 6" MF pads. Is it possible the pads are actually a little larger than 6"? I would imagine the more support the better, but is it just preference? I seem to get a little too much mushrooming when I apply pressure on a 6.5" pad on a 5" BP.

Your backing plate should be a 1/2" smaller then your pad

I would never recommend using a 5" bp with a 6.5" pad. Thats very bad info IMO

^Correct. At least he isn't using a 5" pad with a 6.5" backing plate!

I use a 5" bp with 6.5 pads and it worked great IME.

I think one of the problems is that different companies don't use the same measuring standards for their BP's. For example i just checked Meg's 5" backing plate says

"The actual backing plate diameter is 4.75 inches"

My LC 5" backing plate is exactly 5".

Well, I picked up a street walker once when I was young, but that doesn't mean I would do it again :o

Do as you please, but if you come down with something you can't get rid of like pad scuff, don't say I didn't warn you Im the MAN

Either of those are perfect for 5.5 pads :props:

Ideal Combination: You should use at least 1/2" larger pad compare to backing plate. You could use 6" pad with 5" backing plate but the outcome could not be good as of 6" pad with 5.5" backing plate.
