Your pad should be larger than the backing plate, use a 5" bp with a 6" pad, not the other way around.

Re: Backing plate

I answered your question on the other thread you created. Its not polite creating a bunch of threads on the same topic requesting help in many places. Create a thread in the relevant section, sit back and wait giving people time to respond. Just like fishing, its all about being patient.

Re: Backing plate

A rule of thumb when using pads, you should always go a half inch larger on the pads from size of the backing plate. The extra pad will give you a little safety room when working on the vehicles.

Example:

5" Backing Plate 5.5" Pads
6" Backing Plate 6.5" Pads

You can still certainly use a 6" pad on a 6" Backing plate but not the best idea

I would advise against this^^ A 6" pad on a 5" plate is not a good idea.
Using a 6.5" pad on a 6" plate will work just fine, but using 5.5" pads on a 5" backing plate is much more manageable and easier to use.

Used as an eg. Of not using a plate that's larger than a pad. Letting him soak that in first before advising optimal pad to backing sizes.

This looks like a duplicate post?

Looks just like this one except the title is a little different?

Backing plate

Just a few days ago you posted multiple threads on the same topic and I merged them all into one thread and then in post #24 explained that it's only neccassary to post a SINGLE or ONE thread per topic as posting multiple threads for the same topic causes confusion and is considered poor netiquette.

Here's a link to that post

Car polishing post #24

I'm going to merge your other duplicate thread into this thread and please only create one thread per topic.

Thank you ahead of time.

I'm going to merge this into the above thread. You only need to create one thread per topic.
