Hello people. has anyone had trouble with their backing pads on Rupes
here is a photo of mine from a Bigfoot mk2 15
do i need to get a new backing plate.
 
Yeah that plate looks trashed. I would imagine the housing got eaten up as well. What happened ?
 
If it's just the black streak, you can get that off with goof off. Make sure to apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to your rubber shroud before reinstalling your plate.

It's hard to tell, the back doesn't look cut to you? It looks like a shadow.

Nah.

The first time I used my Duetto after cleaning it, I got those marks on the plate. I cleaned off all the lubrication grease.
 
I have tried cleaning the backing plate but it wont come off I have used a scrapper and got some of it off it is baked on there
I think this happened when I was doing concave panels. I do use dielectric grease to lube and apply after 20 hours of use. I have also seen in this site it is ok to use air tool oil as well
 
Those black marks are from the shroud making contact with the grey area of the backing plate you're showing. This is what they call "anti-spin" feature. I absolutely hated that this turns the BP black like you've shown. Not only that but after prolong use, you will see black plastic debris flying out as you're polishing. I've used APC to clean it before and it came out looking like new.

I know Rupes doesn't recommend installing the washer mod but this is one of the reasons why I like my washer mod.

So long as the BP is mounting to the polisher securely, spins true and the Velcro is holding the pads securely then you're fine.
 
Hi the worst part on the backing plate would be 1mm thick nothing will remove it I have thought of heating it with a heat gun and scrapping it off but I wont do that because i am scared i will melt my backing plate. I have ordered a new plate should be here on Tuesday New Zealand time.
