Hello all,

I have been detailing cars for over 20 years. Mostly for fun or for family and friends. Never for money.

Recently I decided to start a part-time business detailing cars. And it has been going well.

I definately learned a lot about what I had and didn't have......Both in skill and materials :o

It took me almost 12 hours. Most of my time was spent on the interior. It was trashed. The car only had 40,000 miles on it. The clear coat and paint were in pretty good condition even though it had not been washed since they got the car.
Here is a breakdown of what I used:

Wheels & Wheel Wells

Amazing Roll Off -- tires and wheel wells
Meguiar's Wheel Brightner -- wheels
Meguiar's Hyper Dressing -- tires (light coat)
Griot's Undercarriage Spray -- wheel wells

Wash

Dawn Dishwashing Soap

Engine

Amazing Roll Off
Dressed with 303 Aerospace Protectant

Carpets & Upholstery

Folex -- spot treatment
Woolite 10:1 -- Cleaning
Bissell

Interior and Door Jams

Meguiar's APC+ 4:1
Plastic treated with 303
Odoban (smell on inside of car)
Alcohol & Water 50/50 for windows
Also treated all of the rubber seals with 303

Paint

Meguiars 205 w/Orange CCS pad -- 2 coats
Klasse AIO w/White CCS pad -- 2 coats
Collinite 845 w/Grey CCS pad -- 2 coats

Black Plastic on trunk

I tried everything to bring it back. I ended up having to use Black Wow. I know it won't last for very long, but at least it looks good. (any ideas would be great.) Just so you know I tried "Showroom", Forever Black, Klasse AIO, and 303.

That was absolutely disgusting! How do people let things get like that? You certainly cleaned it up well.

Thank you Stephen! I have wanted to try Trim Restorer. I've heard its a great product. I just bought a gallon of Meguiars Leather Cleaner and Conditioner......I have to get through it. On my next shipment I will definately order some Trim Restorer and Optimum Leather Protectant and give them a try. Thanks for the advice! Jonathan

No problem Jonathan. One product you really do not wish to get is the Auto Magic Bumper Magic. When that stuff gets moist, it will leave runs on you vehicle. I've never had such a problem with Trim Restorer and/or Optimum.

Oh yeah. Forgot to add one more thing to your collection IF you have a compressor. If you DO HAVE A COMPRESSOR, I would suggest you look into getting one of these:

Autogeek Tornador Car Cleaning Gun Free Bonus

The Auto Geek Tornador. I use this on almost all of the American made vehicles with cloth interior to get all of those liquid stains out of cloth seats and carpets. All I spray onto everything is Megs APC+. With that combo, it pretty much takes away all of the marks.

Here is what a 2008 Taurs X interior looked like when I detailed the customer deliver vehicle at the Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership where my dad is one of the main people there:

Again, my $.02/recomendation!!

Looks good, that light Ford interior is the worst. I had an Explorer with that interior and it was forever dirty.

Seriously! The tan is too light.

if you clean it once then put fabric sealant on it will clean up better
What fabric sealant do you use? I got some 303 Fabric Protectant, it doesn't seem to work that good...

A compressor is next on my list. How hard is the the Tornador to use? Is there much mess or cleanup afterwards? It looks like it works great....

:iagree:

I agree. How can you let it get like that. I can understand clutter, but that if just plain filth.

Yes. It's easy to use and does its work quickly. There is just one lil catch to it. If there is a big, deep coffee stain, it will make a mess. You will need to make sure the surrounding areas are blocked off with a towel(s).

Great turn around! If you can decrease your time, you will be fine. My details normally consist of a full interior cleaning, wash, clay, hand wax.
I too have run into some nasty ones like this. There are some tricks, but nothing is ever skipped. Better products and equipment, technique, and process can cut your time down. My adverage is $50 an hour. Also this is with no paint correction!
Stay with it you will get better, with the 20 years you have detailing you should have it pretty much perfected as far as processes.

My .02 on the compressor and Tornador Tool.
I bought my Tornador from DetailKing at a seminar. It is a Great Tool. If you are a fixed location and have a large compressor fine. The tool does require a good source of air. I have a 6 gallon pancake compressor, and it really is not enough. I am fully mobile. So be sure to have a good size compressor for the Tornador. I do carry both pieces of equipment. :dblthumb2:
