Hi everyone, thought I'd come to my favorite store-site and forum for a quick question that has been bothering me, because it seems simple but I can't think of a good solution I feel comfortable with.

Q: If my schedule doesn't allow me to wash, wax, and detail mist/shine my car all at once like I love to do for that perfect 3-step process... how can I cope with the day or two my car sits in the garage and accumulates dust (even very small amounts of air particles) on the paint?

I don't want to go spritz it with a detail spray and rub anything across the paint, no matter how small or thin the layer of dust might be just from sitting for a day or two, and I've also heard California Dusters can scratch the clear coat as well since contaminants accumulate in the parafin waxy strands. Does anyone have any tips on this ordeal? How can I SAFELY/speedily remove anything on the paint's surface before spraying and rubbing with a microfiber and picking up where I left off to finalize the detail process?

THANKS! :)

I know you don't want to, but a good QD is my only reccomendation other that a wash. QD is quicker, and you can carefully clean your car up in less than 5 min. Then just take off where you left.:xyxthumbs:

Thanks! I guess with some freshly cleaned microfibers and generous usage of one of my spray detailers, I'll be fine, right? That's what they are made for I suppose, I was just nervous to put anything on the surface of my car without having JUST washed it, but that would be a huge waste of time and water since it's already 'clean.'

I have a couple products I could use... Meg's Synthetic Spray Detailer or Wizard's Mist-N-Shine. I buy both by the gallon, hopefully they provide enough lubrication so that nothing resting on the paint becomes an issue.

How much time can you dedicate at the time?
May be you can wash and clay one day, then ONR/wash and compund, then ONR/wash and polish, then wash and wax?
BTW For the 1st time I used some Mothers QD on Sunday just to remove some dust and it works very well. Just change your towels often..I definitely will be ordering some ONR or the DP one.

I have heard a lot about ONR over the years, I am going to look back into it. As far as how much time I have to dedicate at once, I only have one day off a week really, because work and my second job always demands some of my time. The car is near-flawless, a 2009 with only a few thousand miles on it, a gorgeous Mustang GT California Special... so I don't know if it needs clay, and I certainly don't think it needs compound. If anything, something super mild, like Meg's pure Polish without any cleaners to fill in some of the minute swirls perhaps?

I will definitely change microfibers VERY frequently, thanks so much for the help and thought! :)

How do people feel about the California Car Duster overall??

I do not trust it. Better a QD and MF towels... it take almost the same time and looks even better & more protected, just my 0.02

Thanks for the input, I was REALLY on the fence about the California Duster anyway. I was just looking for something to remove surface dust BEFORE doing a Quick Spray Detail.

THANKS GUYS!!

I have the ONR in the basket right now, think that is better than a QD at wiping my baby down after she's been sitting in the garage for a couple days after a good wash and wax?

Why not try both? I think an onr wash may be a little more to set up, but a little safer as well. However, after using Meg's Ultimate QD, I have faith in that method as a very quick clean. I think the most popular QD on the forum is FK 425...

Ultima Waterless Wash is also a very popular quick wash product, but I have yet to try it.:props:

Thanks again... I am going to buy a couple ONR bottles and see how that does, I would much rather spend a little time diluting it and spend a little more money on it, and receive even a small 10% increase and paint protection and pampering.

What strength should I use as far as dilution ratio?

Buy a gallon. It is much cheaper that way. 1 oz. yields 2 gallons. I find it doesnt need any more than that. UWW+ is an awesome WW. I make 2 gallons and apply liberally with a Garden Sprayer. I use 2 plush MF per panel. No marring. BTW your Mustang has ceramic clear which is hard as hell!

I didn't know that about the Stang... really? The top coat is harder than most paint? Nice!

I apologize, after years on the forum and detailing, I should know what all the acronyms mean, but I don't know what UWW+ and WW mean.

WW=Waterless Wash
UWW+ is Ultimas WW, A 16 oz bottle makes 5.5 gallons. IME it is safer than a QD and adds as much gloss. It will also make a great No Rinse at 1 oz per 3 gallons. No rinse is a very safe option IME. I think Ford went to ceramic in 07 or 08. Hard to scratch and hard to remove scratches!
