baked on brake dust removal help

i just brought a mustang and am trying to remove this thick baked on brake dust from one of the wheels. the others i got out with some apc+ and degreaser but this one has it really baked and looks like rust. what could i buy local that might work.thanks
 
+1 to Sonax. Put it on there, let it dwell for a minute or two and then come back and agitate. Repeat if necessary.
 
Locally - nothing that I know of. I would step it up to iron x.

Wd40 is also sometimes what you need for those seriously baked on stuff

is that a g35 you have in your picture. i wanted to purchase one but the prices went up in the summer instead i got a mustang. how do you like it and is it manual or auto.thanks for the reply by the way
 
+4 on Meguiar's Wheel Brightener....:props:

Sometimes I'll scrub the affected area with a brass or nylon bristled brush to loosen the debris. Once you're through wash the wheel again with soap and water then rinse.

Wow..Really? Doesn't that scratch the wheel all up?

Yes, it's a G35. If you seal your wheels, you won't need any strong wheel cleaners..just soap and water. Opti-Coat and GTeching C5 are great sealers.:xyxthumbs:
 
A cleaner like mothers might get most off. If that does not work, get a q tip and some meguiars hot shine cleaner. dip the q tip in and rub on the brake dust. It might have acid in the brake dust which is why its hard to remove
 
i tried wd40 but it did nothing ive also used mothers wheel and tire cleaner no luck
 
I use Optimum APC and a "low" cut green scrubby pad (Like the ones used to clean pots and pans) Let the APC soak a few minutes and scrub it up and rinse off.:xyxthumbs:

i have opc but didnt want to waste it all on the rim how much better does it work rather the meguiars apc

I honestly wouldn't know. But you wouldn't need much OPC, just enough to wet the scrubber.

+500! I just used this for the first time a few weeks ago and was amazed at how easy it was to remove caked on brake dust. I'll be keeping this in stock permanently...

Anyone have thoughts for something that is equally powerful that is safe for aluminum wheels?
 
PB wheel cleaner worked great when I bought my used Mustang. 10 years and the barrels had never been cleaned. I would rate them an 8 out of 10 now
