I believe it was the Fisher Brothers who were the last hold-outs on using wood within their bodies till 1937. They started out making horse drawn carriages.Bought thousands upon thousands of acres of timber over the years and did`nt want to get stuck with them.Change came hard for that Family of craftsmen.Early cars were built using a lot of wood.
Back when automobiles were first invented and introduced there were no "car paints" because there were no cars. So the same paints used on furniture, shellac, varnish lacquers and enamels were used on cars.
If furniture cleaners and polishes could and would maintain the furniture in the house then these same products could and would take care of the car in the garage.
