Does anyone know if there are any battery-operated DA polishers available?

I don't have any shade in my yard so I am limited as to when I can polish my car. I would like to be able to go to the park and polish my car in the shade but there is no electric. Would rather purchase a battery-operated DA polisher, if available, than buy a generator I would have to lug around. With all the battery-operated tools out, I haven't seen any battery-operated DA polishers.

I know a battery or two wouldn't last all day. Maybe I'd just end up applying an LSP, I don't know. But are there any battery-powered options out there?

Almost forgot about this one:
•AC Delco ARS1207 12V 3" Li-ion Mini Polisher

Don't expect much from those as far as results, they are basically battery wax spreaders.

The Griot's Battery powered DA is expensive and has a 45 minute run time

In my opinion, a better idea is to buy a pop-up tent and make.yiur own shade closer to an electrical outlet

I'm far from an expert, but I probably would buy an instant up type tent for shade before I bought a cordless polisher. I'd rather work at home in my driveway or yard.

Matco tools makes a 3 inch da cordless that is pretty awesome imo. I just bought it from a guy on craigslist before flex came out with 3 in rotary. If ur interested pm me ill sell it to ya. Comes with case and accessories.

Not sure if it'd work that well as a polisher but the Makita 18v DA sander has a 5" velcro pad and something like 5mm orbit. The Makita 18v li-ion batteries are brilliant. I doubt it'd be much good if you want heavy scratch removal etc but a 'normal' polish shouldn't be a problem. When sanding the 4ah batteries last a few hours :)

I had the same problem with no power available sometimes. A 400 watt inverter hooked straight to the battery runs my PC now when I do mobile headlight restorations. I got the inverter to run small electrical items while tailgating but it has no problems running the PC unless it's going for a very long time. It will heat up and go into protection mode till it cools off. Never had problems with battery drain either. Just start the vehicle occasionally to keep a good charge.

meh, cordless DA's aren't going to be any good for correction and have a limited run time. if money is an issue, buy the HF DA and figure out a way to source an electrical outlet...

I'd love a cordless for wax/sealant spreading only when I don't want to haul out the Flex and cords. Problem I see is that the one from Griots runs at 4,000 rpms if I'm correct.
You don't need all that noise and motion. How about a speed control?

Thanks for all your help folks. It looks like there are several options currently, but I think battery and cordless DA technology still need to advance before I would buy a cordless.

I will probably pick up an inverter to plug in to the car as I already have a 110VAC Griots DA. I could then use it anywhere without any loss of performance. Since the Griot's 110VAC has an 850 watt motor, I'm thinking I would need an inverter that can supply at least 850-900 watts.
I may also end up getting some kind of pop up shade but I have all winter now to figure it out since I am in northern Illinois. Gives me something to think about in the 'off-season'.

Thanks again.

Just make sure you leave some headroom with your inverter. Same w/ an audio amp. Running at 85% or more constantly will significantly shorten its lifespan...

I bought the Griots Garage cordless DA for my dad to apply wax and sealants to his car. He found the GG6 to be a hassle everytime he waxed the car (which is like once a month).

The GG Battery powered DA is fantastic for this task. It really is. Its small, light and makes more than enough power to apply a paint cleaner or to spread a wax/sealant.

My one gripe with it is the battery size... I would prefer to see a bigger battery pack be available. The battery connector looks to be universal with all the 12 volt packs available on the market. I know its only 10.8 volt but the pack seems identical to all my milwaukee M12 tools. And I believe its only 1.8 amps. I would like to see a 4.0 pack made available and see runtime bumped up.

Cordless DA technology does NOT need to advance. There is nothing special or specific to a "DA sander". the manufacturers just need to see that there is demand for the machine to be produced.

If a manufacturer can make all these tools WITH a 5 year warranty (on the tool) and 3 year warranty (on the battery), then the only thing left is them knowing there is demand for a DA.

I have the entire Milwaukee M18 FUEL line. As well as all the regular M18 tools as well. I also have 8 M12 tools from them. The tools are very powerful with excellent runtime and durability from the batteries. There would be zero problem making an M18 or M12 DA polisher/sander in my opinion. The technology and manufacturing has been going full steam ahead for quite a few years regarding Brushless motors, ESC's (electronic speed control) and Lithium Polymer batteries that are build to last without lipo meltdowns.

If the current Griot's Battery Powered offering is adequate for spreading LSP's

It is a huge leap from 45 minutes of battery life under light load versus polishing for 4.5 hours under heavy load

Even when running a polisher off of a car batter/inverter set-up...you couldn't do a full car without running the motor to charge the battery

From a marketing perspective, I think Griot's has it nailed:

-High price due to limited total market

-Purpose specific machine (wax spreading)
This allows for a smaller battery due to reduced load and duration
