So this past Tuesday I decided to do a REAL WORLD comparison between 2 of the tire coatings I use, Turtle Wax and DP. The test vehicle is my work van, a Ford Transit that's driven M-F about 150 miles a day through everything. The van is ran through a carwash about every 2 weeks, so its going to be updated accordingly.

I started out with a carwash and here's what the tires looked like before I cleaned them:

Looks pretty clean, huh? Well here's what they looked like after spraying Bleache-White on them with my ECO TOUCH sprayer, foaming sprayers work best here:

...after some scrubbing with my Mother's tire and wheel brush, love this thing!

Then I rinsed them down with my 2 gallon hand pump:

Once I was done I actually sprayed another coat of Bleache-White on the tires and then rinsed again so they were completely clean.

Now I know what your looking for next, the pic of the tires coated right, well, I didn't do that because I had to move my van and the lunch hour was done. I did coat them in the shade while loading up my van and besides, its a tire coating and they both look about the same. I will say this though:

-Turtle Wax goes on black with a purple-ish tint and dries in 10 minutes. I applied a 2nd coat 10 minutes later.

-Detailer's Pro goes on milky white with a light blue tint and also dries in 10 minutes. The initial coat needed a couple additional swipes, without adding more coating to the applicator though. The look came into view after the 2nd coat, whereas the TW had it right from the get go.

Both tires were dry to the touch after the 2nd coat and 10 minutes of curing. They have a nice, sheen to them. Now for the record and to remind myself actually, the P/S has DP and the D/S has TW applied to it.

Its been a nice week for weather since applying it but today its supposed to storm, so the first test is up and coming, the weekend is going to be hot and the van will be parked.

I will update this, with pics of the front tires, after every car wash, so stay "tune"ed :dblthumb2:

Actually, no. Pretty brown. I realize this is your work vehicle and you were doing this at lunch without a hose, but I'm sure your results are going to be questioned based on doing only a single scrub and then a spray on/hose off of your cleaner.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the results.

PS Yes, I realize that's the "before cleaning" pic.

When spraying the 2nd time there was no Browning of the tire, same thing that happened when applying the tire coatings to my own car, so I don't see the need for 45 minutes or scrubbing and scrubbing like others have done here. It could be because there was no tire dressing to remove either.

I guess I mispoke when saying "pretty clean", guess I forget where I am sometimes😏

Almost 2 weeks in:

I washed the van and did a QD wipe afterwards.

The DP side has the silver wheel and the TW side has the black wheel.

Hard to tell from the pics, what is your in-person comparison of the two at this point?

Yeah I know, even in the sun its tough but in person the TW has more sheen but the DP is right there.

I haven't forgotten about this thread and I will be washing the van early this week as it's supposed to be nice, stay "tuned".

Thanks for doing this comparison Roger...i still haven't used a coating on my tires since trying the TW spray on one that i hated.

Ok, had the van washed today and here's the results after a simple QD wipe to even things out. The silver wheel is DP and the black/rusty wheel is TW. IMO the TW has a bit more sheen to it but there's no Browning, even before the QD wipe.

What do you guys think?

I'm using ONRWW made as a QD.

I have to agree and I know it's hard to see in the pics, maybe not but the TW truely does look better in person. You guys must remember this is done on a work van, it goes everywhere through anything and is driven 5 days a week, anywhere from 125-200 miles a day.

Now on a regular DD I feel it's good to lay down a good base, so maybe after 3 weeks it would be good to do a light cleaning and lay down a single coat and see how it goes.

Another thing to consider is the type of tire it is. Some seem to soak it up while others take to it right away. The ones that soak it up may need 3 coats to get it going but with the price of the TW kit ($15.99 msrp) it's ok to use a bit more depending upon your wants/needs. Right now the DP is on BOGO and its the 8 oz size, so that's a decent deal.

I have to say that when you lay down the TW and then lay down the DP it's pretty obvious which one is going to stand the test of time and look the best from the get go.

...the test continues!

Thanks for this. I actually picked up the TW a few months back at Pep Boys on clearance for $9 but have yet to try it.

I think I will finally do it this weekend because I despise scrubbing tires constantly.

Not sure why it was on the clearance rack but great find on an even greater product

1 month on a work van? Great results! I need to coat the fiances tires before winter and see how it holds up to a tough Iowa winter

I had 3 coats on my Blizzaks last winter and they never did brown, towards the end of the season they just had a natural look left. Winter tires are pretty soft so its going to be interesting to see how they do After sitting since the early spring of this year.

How difficult is it to remove the TW stuff?

I just applied it and I'm not sure I am satisfied with the finish. Does it level out? Its really streaky and I could not level out the finish no matter what I did.

And its way too glossy for my tastes even after the 1st coat. :(
