Battle of the tire coatings...TW vs. DP

You could wipe some tire cleaner on it? Not sure about the streaks though, never had that problem with it ever.

How difficult is it to remove the TW stuff?

I just applied it and I'm not sure I am satisfied with the finish. Does it level out? Its really streaky and I could not level out the finish no matter what I did.

And its way too glossy for my tastes even after the 1st coat. :(

When applying it, you need to do 1 or 2 quick swipes and that's it. If you continue to wipe to attempt to level it, you will only cause streaks because of how fast it dries.

I wrote this. It will get it off for sure.

How to remove DP Tire Coating

This is the way to do it. Work in small sections if needed.

The TW tire coating has more gloss than the DP has for sure but I guess everyone has their preference. The DP goes on so much thinner, meaning you could control the gloss. That said though, I just can't see the TW being that glossy, especially after it dries in 10 minutes.

Evo, you could wait a couple weeks and it will tone down a bit to more your liking, just a thought.

I haven't tried to remove the tire coating but have had good results using high percentage alcohol to remove TW's trim coating. I believe they have the same base.

Yeah I'll give it a week to see how it looks before I strip it.

Next week is the 2 month mark, stay "tuned".

***UPDATE***

Ok, it's going to be 2 monthes this week and I did in fact wash the van on Friday before I left to go home. I wasn't able to take pics because it was dark but I did the usual which is spray my DG QD onto the tires and wipe them down. So when I go to work on Monday I snap some pics and post them up. I can report no Browning, from what I could see so they are both holding up fine. The question remains though...which one will be darker, stay "tuned".

Ok, 2 monthes in and here's what we have :

Silver wheel is DP and dark wheel is TW. This is after a DG QD wipe on FRIDAY and it sat all weekend. There was no Browning when I did the wipe but I wanted everything to be the way it's always been. Its just a natural look and both seem pretty equal.

Thoughts???

BTW I had the tires rotated last week so this is still the same exact 2 tires.

I thought so too but wanted an unbiased 2nd opinion because I feel TW is a better product.

I haven't used DP tire coating, but I've used TW based on your reviews and am very happy. With the price point, I don't see moving away from it anytime soon.

Thanks for performing this comparison and documenting.

Between looks, durability and price the TW is the hands down winner. I'm hoping that DP comes out with a "new and improved" formula and cuts the price a bit. The MSRP is almost half of what the DP costs and you get more with the TW as its a proper kit.

One thing that's better about DP is that it does not stain your wheels like TW if you get some on there. Sure it wipes off right away and if you miss it it will come off with GooGone or TarX but it is what it is.

The next month will be interesting as it will be 3 MONTHES old and getting colder. I'm also wondering if it matters if they're on the rear, well I can alway snap shots of the fronts which used to be on the front, LOL.

DG 501 cleans it off really well.

Are you still using the included foam applicator? Didn't you have a process for preserving it?

My process for preserving it is simple, I put it in a ziploc bag. I guess after using it and before you put it away you could spritz it with a QD as well.

Just wondering if anyone has tried using an airbrush for applying TW instead of the applicator?

oh man you're glad we met I have same truck ,I put that stuff on the cladding and mirrors .Looked stunning for about 2 months then all hell broke loose on mirrors has a yellowish hue to them, forget about tires it will crack on you.The cladding looks good till I pumped gas,and the residual ate right through the coating .Now I'm gonna have to scuff it down and reapply.Once you use it you're married to it.Do not put that on anything .A good product is meguairs it's a red liquid it 10 bucks at ag awesome stuff it's a 365 day paint protection use it on rubber cladding etc.It won't be durable like the coatings doesn't run when it rains like dressing do but you will thank me 2 or three months later.Solution finish is awesome to.
