well.... i am about to take a decision , and not sure what direction to go to , so i will ask for few opinions here.

facts:
- i wash/correction cars for over a year now , 98% is ONR , i carry 1-2 buckets with water ocasional
- all my equipment fit into a trunk of a sedan car
- my business is high end vehicle oriented , 1 max 2 cars a day
- my business is paint correction oriented
- i am still new as a business and i want to be seen and get my name out ( i do advertise )
- i am mobile so transportation / gas are important


i plan do light volume on high end/ mid class and plan get another vehicle that should be wide/big enough for a wrap /advertise , it has to be good on gas and decent looking .

based of the facts i list i am not sure if i should look into a commercial vehicle that i can carry water/electrical for light volume , or just stick with any good gas mileage car and wrap it.
also what kind of car? ... i was looking for a ford transit - if plan get a water tank , and a prius if i plan wash with onr and no need for extra equipment.

i know some of you have years of experience into volume and i will appreciate your advice.

I would look at the Frord Transit Connect... if you do decide to add a water tank, you will have the room and capacity for carrying one. You can wrap that vehicle and have a mobile billboard advertising yor detailing venture!
 
If you are looking for something semi flashy I would go with a BMW E46 (3 series) Wagon... Tint the windows and you can wrap it... Lots of space and looks good... I like the Ford Transit's too they are kinda cool...
 
+1 for the ford transit......

I think it is the perfect vehicle for mobile detailers. And i would definitely start to carry your own water and electricity. That is truly taking it to the next level and makes you step ahead of everybody else. if you start bringing in more business there are times you will need more water than 2 buckets will provide and when you have your own power you will never want to deal with hassling with your customers power again.

I have a trailer because I only do this part time and I didn't want a full time car payment, so I can pull the trailer with my other cars, but I would love to have the ford transit instead.
 
I myself am looking at the Ford Transit Connect, but the one thing turning me off is you cannot get it with the diesel or manual transmission like you can everywhere else in the world.

I am also looking at the VW Jetta Sport Wagon as you can get it with a TDi that gets 45 MPG+ and it has tons of room as I never use a water tank either. Its also nice and clean looking.
 
Another fan of the Ford Transit. A fair amount of space and clean and sharp designs.
 
4 door Jeep with a hard top and have someone fabricate a flat rear area for a skid mount.
 
When I put together my second rig I was thinking "wash rig" .... I was trying to compete with my buddy who does 7-10 cars a day at $50-65 a pop and I'll be honest it was HARD WORK. driving from site to site, house to house 8-5 do 6-7 cars, make about $250-350 a day but it was hard work, where as two Details could make me a little more Than this BUT I thought I wanted more work! Well I did but I wanted easier work LOL!
I would buy a Tahoe and a trailer and do a half wrap that matches my trailers so that it still can be dual purpose.
 
Volvo V70XC. Good fuel milage compared to SUVs. Upgrades possible if wanting more power. Great all weather vehicle.
 
Ford Transit/E150 and the Chevy Express are all good ideas. Don't know how good you'll get with the gas mileage however.

Scion xB would be my 1st real choice if fuel and room is your thing, Honda Element, Chevy HHR are all in the good fuel and room thing.

Volvo/Audi wagon's are good too but you'll be paying a premi for thos vehicles.

I can make ya a heck of a deal on my 2007 4dr, hard top Wrangler Cosmin! I am moving into a Chevy HHR SS as soon as I can find one.
 
Ford Transit Connect and HHR panel are great options. You can also get the Dodge Caravan in a cargo configuration for a decent price. Although the Ford and Chevy offer good gas mileage, the Caravan with the V6 won't struggle as much if you are considering a water tank and may be carrying a heavy load. So don't just look at the surface numbers, consider a loaded down vehicle and the power required to move the weight. Good luck Cosmin :dblthumb2:
 
I bought a used Town & Country minivan for only $2,400 and its served me very well throughout this past year of mobile detailing. It gets great gas mileage and with all the back seats removed it has a lot of storage room. Behind the front seats I have my supplies in about 6 rubbermaid plastic containers, a 125 gal water tank then in the very back I have a generator and my pressure washer. I have the LX edition which has all power doors so when I arrive at a clients house I just push 3 buttons and both side doors and the back door opens up so I can quickly load and unload. Even with a full water tank this van has some great handling and still has a peppy engine to it too. It may be a minivan at first but once you get the lettering on the outside its then just a really efficient business vehicle.
 
I read/watch a lot of car reviews and last week I saw one on the Ford Transit. Of course its not the fastest thing in the world but its not made to be. Got a great review! I would go with that personally.

most likely i will lease an ford transit , wrap it up , get some extra equipment and start rolling.
i may add mid volume to what i do now , and also i may pump some more marketing and push for a helper.

i start build an image as professional and an professional vehicle is a must....or at least for my goals and where i wanna be with this business
 
No matter what you choose, please remember your automobile is your billboard also. Nothing worse than seeing an old, dirty, uncared for car pull up with detailing signs on it. No matter the choice (consider slightly used, allow someone else to take the initial depreciation) keep it clean and prepped and let it speak for you !
 
I've gone completly green with my business and business vehicle. I'm now using a VW jetta sportwaon TDI. 40 mpg clean diesel and using ONR and Nomad washer only when really bad. It's been working great for me.
