Been a while.. Pad suggestions

Hey everyone, its been a while since I have been real active on here. Things have settled down and I have time to get back to spending time detailing.

I've got a 00 BMW 540I, in black. It has been a while since I have really cut and polished it out. Its got some RIDS and Swirls that I would like to take care of. It looks great under normal light but with a LED flashlight you can see some issues. The paint on this car, and many e39's from 99-01 is known to be finicky (in the BMW world at least)

In the past I was using the optimum spray compound and polish with their respective micro-fiber cutting pads. It always worked pretty well, but I was never totally happy.

What I am looking for is a pad/product recommendation.

Whats new out there and is good?
I know M105/205 was always a favorite, but I tried and wasn't really happy with it on the BMW paint, but it worked great on my old Toyota.

My machine is GG6. I cant remember is the backing plate is 5.5 or 6.5. 90% sure its 5.5 though.

Kind of a long post.
Cliffs: looking to get update about pad and product recommendations for black paint.
 
If you did not like M105 and M205 then you should try Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. The other choice would be to go with Menzerna compound and polish.
 
Try Menzerna Twins along with Orange, White , grey Lake Country CCS pads.
 
I would (I did) get the new Meguiar's 5" pads for the PC, they work awesomely. I've also had good luck with the Ult Compound/Ult Polish combo
 
In my experience, German paint loves German polish. Menzerna and Wolfgang work wonders.

For pads I personally prefer the closed cell structure style with a flat face such as the Lake Country Hydro techs.
 
I'll look into all of your suggestions, thanks. I have been detailing a long time, even did it as a job on the side for a couple of years, but for whatever reason, this car, my car, I cant seem to get quite right. I'm sure I spend too much time looking for imperfections that no one else sees, but that's why we are all here...:buffing:
 
I'm really wanting to like the hydro-tech pads from LC because the amount of pad colors is getting out of hand.

Megs discs, LC Hydro-Tech if I had to buy them again.

That's what I've been using lately, and I love them.

I don't have to crank the speed up, I don't have to use heavy pressure, I use less product.

The Hydrotech pads, and Menzerna FG400 Compound / SF4000 polish seems a match made in heaven.

I also keep PF2500 on hand, which fall in between FG400, and SF4000. I use it on a Tangerine Hydrotech.

I made this pad recommendation based on the mention of using the GG6. I too love the hydro techs on free spinning DA machines.

If using the 3401, I prefer the Hybrids. Just want to clear that up.
 
:iagree: Yep I like the fg400 & sf4000 with LC pads. Rather fond of the flat pads orange to grey. Good luck & take care.

My black 07 BMW loves Menzerna products. I also agree with Mike's recommendations on pad choices...the thinner the better with DA's and the hybrids on my rotary are phenomenal. I would certainly go with the hybrids on any forced rotation machine be it a rotary or a Flex.
