I noticed today that our new 2005 black expedition in the direct sunlight has some very noticeable swirls. I have decided on most of the products that I am going to try from start to finish based on recommendations and reading in the forums for my first order but now that I have seen those I need to obviously take care of them. From what I've read about taking care of swirls everyone mentions using the power tools but the truth is I cannot afford a power tool to help me out so it's going to be all manual labor for me :/ So the question I have is can I remove swirls manually by my own hands and if so what would be the best product for the manual method. To make things worse the car is BLACK!

THANKS! --JEFF--

Can you do it by hand?...yes. Do you want to?...absolutely not.

Where are you located? Maybe there is a forum member near you that would be willing to help out with a loaner tool, or help out with the work as well.

I am in central New York 30 Minutes from Syracuse. That would be so awesome and such a blessing if there was someone that could help me out with that!

Get something that fills swirls until you are sure that your wash/dry technique isn't adding swirls. Continue to use the product until you have enough saved up for a machine.

I'd personally rather get a temp job for a day or two shoveling dirt than try to correct by hand. Take that cash and buy a machine.

Thanks I will check out the article! Are there any national chains that rent the machines also what is a really good price if I was to buy one eventually?

I get a PC7424xp for pretty cheap on AG. They have a kit thats $169.99. If I tried to remove defects by hand I think my arm would fall off before I got done with one panel. And chances are your clear coat is pretty hard since its an American car.

I don't know of any national chains that rent tools like DA Polishers but most tool rental stores rent rotary buffers. You don't want to learn how to machine buff a black car using a rotary buffer, better to learn on something not important to you.

That said, what I've seen a lot of people do over the years is purchase an entry level tool like the Griot's, Meguiar's or Porter Cable DA Polishers, get some pads and a few products and buff out their car.

After they buff out their own car the natural progression is their friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members, etc. see the results and then ask the person to detail their car.

After a few details you recoup your initial investment and now have a way to make a few bucks on weekends.

Also, you can remove swirls by hand, Bobby included one article that does show what can be done by hand, here's an article that I show the work and time difference between working by hand or machine where the goal wa to create machine-like results by hand so in this article I did a multiple-step procedure by hand and machine.

The times in the article are accurate as removing swirls by hand to the point that it will compare to what a machine can do is time-consuming.

If your rig is a daily driver, it's going to get shallow swirls again over time so here's an article where I show how to do a simple process by hand and yet get excellent results. You can use the products I show in the article or use the same techniques with any quality paint cleaner and wax or sealant.

How to clay, clean and wax paint by hand with Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion and Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax

Outside in natural light, it looks like the Pinnacle Signature Series II Paste Wax is floating over the paint... not bad for a simple approach anyone can do in their garage...

Thanks for the info i did read that article a few days ago and it was helpful. I will be going by hand for the time being :/ This is my daily driver as well.

If it is an 07 or later it has ceramic clear, It is hard as hell. a machine withMegs DA MF System is the way to go.

Man good luck....I don't think you can remove it.....I just think it will look better...but who am I

Pardon my stupid question above, Lots of elbow grease with Ultimate Compound or Swirl X should do it.
