Been very impressed with Opti-Coat so far!

Just ordered some today. I was told the $100 size is enough to do 4 cars. Did you use it all on one car?

Not sure I'd be able to get 4 cars out of it but I guess it would come down to your application. I had a small amount left but I also applied 2 coats to my car (has to be done within 30 minutes) and I also wasted a little on accident. 3 cars is definitely doable though.

So it was pretty much wipe on... believe the invisible protection is there and buff with MF after 5 mins? can you see anything on the paint when you apply? how do you know you've got it buffed out correctly with a MF

Thanks for advice

Chris

It's a lot like Opti-Seal. You'll see it start to dry/flash off and then you give it a light buff to even it all out. Do one panel a a time. I was waiting about 30-45 second before giving it a light buff but it will depend on your conditions. It was about 85 when I did my car.

Looks good Rasky.:dblthumb2:

On a side note, what kind of camera phone is that? Takes VERY nice pics!

Thanks Mark! Pics were taken with my iPhone 4. :props:

Another flavor of the month product.

Hardly

Sorry about the hijacking of this thread..........

Hey Chad, First Congrads on the contest ( I got the honorable mention) but i have a question on the Surbuf pads...whats your opinion on them, durability, results and etc...I mainly use Lake Country pads....but came across a thread you posted and you stated you used Surbuff pads...wanted mainly to use them for polishing (Menzerna, Megs 105) are they worth the purchase? they look thin which I like

Sorry about my inbox Wendell, I was working all weekend and didn't get a chance to check this until now. Not sure what thread you saw but I actually have not use the Surbuf pads yet, though I did just get some from the contest last week. ;)

From what I've read I'd say use them with M105, M86, or UC only, when tradition foam pads are not cutting it.

This is incorrect.

I have been testing Opti-Coat for 4 years before it's official release. It is, as others have stated, the future of where paint protection will be going.

For others asking I will try and fill in some blanks.

Opti-Coat, one syringe, can do about 4 cars BUT this depends on just how much of the car you will be coating. Meaning not only the painted areas but also glass, lenses, wheels and trim.

Opti-Coat goes on much like Opti-Seal but is far more finicky in the flashing off area. It's best in humid weather and temps should not be below 50. It can be applied in cooler temps but more vigilance on the application must be taken for streaks and hazing.

It's difficult to "fix" an area without doing the whole section of that panel. In other words if you have a small blemish that needs repair on a fender you may have to remove it from the entire fender and then reapply.

The reason it is not being offered to the individual person is because this is intended to be a complete automotive protection system. We (by "we" I mean we are testing the product) are working on an interior product that can be applied to the whole interior, including vinyl and leather. I wanted a product that was a true paint coating and was exclusive to certain individuals and not one that every weekend warrior could get their hands on and apply. I believe that to be smart in 1) it cuts down on a bad rep for the product because many people will apply it wrongly and 2) it gives pros an economical up sell to clients and dealers.

So can you top this product with spray wax for added gloss/depth?

How do I find detailers who are proficient with it in my area?

You can but it sort of defeats the purpose of the product. Where are you located?

I tried it in the winter and botched it. I removed it without issue using my GG DA and BF compound. I may try again when it gets below 90 deg. I over applied in places and the car was very streaky. It was user error but if applied well will be lights out. I also got some AQuartz and will try it for sure. AG should consider AQuartz IMO.

Who makes Opti-Coat?

Optimum is the maker, not available to the public just yet, its in the Beta test stage, there are a few dealers that have been selected to use this product with some serious excitement about the results...supposedly 1oz. can cover the entire car....hard to imagine that....but thats the rumor

Shot a quick clip of the Opti-Coat water sheeting/beading last night while I was washing my car. It was hard to hold/work my phone while running the pressure washer but you get the idea. :)

This is about 2 months in now.

Well I've owned it since new so it's always been in great shape, though it had been almost a year since it had been polished. Prior to applying Opti-Coat I lightly polished with M105 on the PCXP and Tangerine LC pad to remove any scratches and then finished the whole car off with M205 on the PCXP equipped with a Crimson LC pad. :props:

I am still waiting to use this product. Sounds like a rather impressive offering (or should I say coating).

Wow, thanks Chad - That is some kind of beading!

How would you describe Opti-Coat compared to Opti-Seal?

Is it a "just" longer lasting or is it slicker and shinier too?

I'd say application and look are similar.

Other than that they are completely different. The durability of Opti-Coat is way beyond that of a typical sealant. Usually after a few touch-less car washes you will see sealants start to loose their beading, not with Opti-Coat! I even went over the hood a few times with some IPA to remove some weird grease/sap like substance I picked up on the freeway....still beading like it did the day I applied it! :props:

I finally got some ... now I need some best application hints. Plan to use on daily driver or wifes truck. Any hints are welcome, will likely apply after a polish session the last week of Sept.

Very similar to Opti-Seal.

Just do one panel at a time and give it a good buff once it stats to flash so that you don't end up with any blotchy areas. I think I only had to wait about 30 seconds before buffing it with a towel but it may very with your climate. Take your time and really think out a plan of attack before you start going at it....for instance, when applying wax you can pretty much start and end where you want. I normally start on the hood and go around the car and I'll apply wax to half the roof and I'll do the other half when I get over to the other side. With Opti-Coat you would want to do the whole roof before moving on to other panels to avoid the risk of clouding, which I'm told can happen if you go back over an area that has already cured (approximately 30 min I believe).

Matt can probably give you some tips too as well as David Fermani as he has used it on several cars now.

Let me know what you think of it too...I'm about to order up some more for the wife's car. :)
