Been very impressed with Opti-Coat so far!

What if someone were to post a similar sheeting/beading video of finish protected by elusive M16? I do recall seeing them (KC from Malasia?) but I don't recall the time length of the protection. It certainly was not 12-months but it was some number of months. Of course respected people have chimed in with "Just because it sheets/beads does not mean it is protected" along with "just because it does NOT sheet/bead does not mean it no longer protected" contrary opinions.

Given that this product is still being beta tested, I would be interested in how it actually gets marketed in a year. Stranger things have happened. I certainly would have never guessed seeing Meguiars "crushed-red-bricks-in-a-five-inch-can" rubbing compound on the shelves of Walmart sitting proudly next to the fancy box of premium wax imported from UK costing $45 (I forgot the name) :-)

Opti-coat is not in beta testing. It has been released for quite some time now. It is only available to professional detailers (or people with great knowledge in detailing) and even then a waiver needs to be signed.

With KC being in Malaysia nothing lasts that long for him. I remember m16 only lasted a month or two in his weather conditions. Plus KC has also used Opti-coat on several cars. Maybe he'll chime in later.

Opti-coat certainly isnt the only product out there that boasts a or two year durability. There is Aquartz, the new Cquarts and Gtechniq. All of which have great reviews.

I have OptiCoat as well and have played around with it and it most certainly is the real deal. I understand your scepticism but this is a case where I believe the product actually does what it says it will do. We all know the dealership sealant packages are nothing more than a glorified wax but OC is truly a perminent coating on your vehicle and I believe it will last and last and last. Just my 2c

You can definitely get similar water sheeting with other waxes/sealants, but OC just acts a little different IMO...others have noted the same thing. plus normal sealants would be dead after repeated Dawn and auto car washes. ;)

I did all the beta testing on Opti-Coat for more than 3 years before it was sold. It has been on several of those "beta" cars now almost 5 years. You can knock it, deny it or continue to call it a scam based on my findings and testing alone as many consider me "in the pocket" of Optimum (or other manufacturers) but now that others have used and tested Opti-Coat and found it to be the real deal my previous claims are being taken seriously.

Either that or perhaps everyone else is also in on the big scam being perpetuated by Optimum.

I have had it on my daily driver for almost 3 years. I have applied it to several clients cars. I even put it on my moms Benz and she raves about how clean it stays. I is my experience that it IS the real deal. My car still beads like day one. I need to polish out some scratches on the roof and trunk, but I'm waiting to see if the protection is ever going to fall off. I've clayed it twice and used Power Clean on bugs and its still there. I love it.
 
I take my previous criticism back. There are quite a few of you who have verified the claims and I defer to you.

I am still not fond of how it is being sold to professional detailers. There is something about the 15/15/300 plan I alluded in my previous reply bothers me.

I certainly appreciate your POV, but being a professional...I like the exclusivity. As for your "15-15-300" comparison, that's just not accurate. I will not apply the coating without prep which takes several hours unless the car is new. Then applying the coating requires a good eye, great lighting and much longer than "15 minutes" to apply. As for the "$300" I have never charged that for the coating its self. That's more in line for a single step prep plus the coating for me. Others may get more, but I feel like I do well with my prices and Optimum has never set a minimum SRP for the coating that we have to abide by. I think you may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater to use a metaphor. Just because dealers used an ideal paint protection as a scam, doesn't mean that ideal paint protection can't be realized. Optimum has done it and there are other coatings that perform well too. Seeing is believing with this stuff, but since it takes a few years to see that it is still there, you'll just have to try it out or rely on those of us who have. Calling it crap just because you can't get your head around it isn't really fair.

Did my first retail Opti-Coat job last weekend. This was actually the first of five cars I will be applying Opti-Coat on for this client.

Application went perfectly this time and I only ended up using 15-20cc's which coated all paint, glass, trim (minus running boards) head/tail lamps, door jambs, and wheels. I did have some issues with the plunger sticking again which wasted a little product so I'd say it was also closer to 15cc actually used and this is a large vehicle with a lot of surface area.

I asked the owner for his feedback over the next several weeks and will update the thread with his testimonial. The other 4 cars are scheduled to be started in late Nov so he will have a good chance to see how well it works before doing the other cars. :props:

Does anybody know a pro detailer in the Boise Idaho area who is using Opti-Coat? Since I can't get it I would consider a pro doing it for me.
