Before I buy the Flex.

My new cars "black metallic" paint is in pretty good shape, and only has a little spider webbing from drying and washing the car. It's not really noticeable unless you look real close.. lol

I'm not really looking at paint correction right now. I'm really looking more at applying glazes and possibly sealants with a machine. I'm leaning toward buying a PKG deal through autogeek. I'm kind of down to the Pinnacle PKG and the Wolfgang PKG. The Menzerna PKG is nice, but I'm not sure I want to spend $500.

I just need your thoughts on if the Flex still the way to go for casual use? Or would a PC be more in line.. Also, what PKG you would recommend. I'll likely buy a machine sometime this week..

if your just gonna use it for glaze and wax application then go with the porter cable 7424. Most people use the flex for the extra power needed in paint correction.

I guess I just don't want to spend the money on a PC, and then say I wish I would've bought the flex. If the flex is ok for applying glazes and sealants, as well as paint correction ( when I need it down the road) then I'll have the best of both worlds if need be.

So after people make the corrections to their paint, do they maintain the paint using their flex with glazes and sealants, or do they apply the products by hand, or by PC? I'm new to all of this and have been using cleaner waxes, glazes and sealants by hand, or with an 10" orbital buffer from sears. lol

I guess I'm kind of on the fence. The PKG's I'm looking at the flex is only about $100 more than the PC. I would love to buy the flex, but if it's more of a paint correction type of polisher vs the PC then I'm not sure if I need it.

Order the kit if you have done your homework. The condition of your paint is not going to get any better then it already is. The Flex is a good investment. YOU already see scratches, and since they are not so noticable, it will be easier for you to maintain. A glaze can only fill so much :)
 
Here is my recommendation, I would buy the Flex (if you ever need that extra power in the future its there) as for applying waxes and sealants with it....well, that's your call to make, me personally and all my clients cars that I do, I still apply and remove waxes and sealants by hand. Using a PC or Flex absorbs way too much product. Good Luck.
 
Like everyone said, get the Flex, if you buy the Porter Cable you will be back again in 6 months grabbing the Flex.
 
Flex is the most valuable player in the Random Orbital arena currently.
 
flex first, cause if ya buy pc, your gonna eventually want the flex, and then have two polishers and only use one (like i do). save the money and go ahead and get the best
 
I appreciate all of your thoughts and replies. I ended up talking with Meghan, and was able to decide on a polisher (flex) and PKG (Wolfgang).

Its at an extra cost, but well worth it!!

At the same time I have to say I just finished my sisters VW Jetta ( no joke like 30mins ago), its was neglected by the previous owner and could have used the power of a rotary for better swirl removal, the Flex could not make the needed corrections, it could be based off the pads or the polishes I used. I Know German cars require a more agressive pad and polish, but all I currently have is LC orange, white and red and in the same order I applied the Menzerna intesive polish, final polish II and finsihing glaze, top coated with Pinnacle XMT, plus clay bar session. So no blame to the Flex it still looks a million times better!!

However if you keep up with the cars I am sure you will be fine, I have used it on a number of my cars that are newer/better taken care of and it cleans them up nicely!!

Thanks. I can't wait to receive it.

I ordered the Flex/Wolfgang PKG today, along with three extra pads. Orange, White & Blue. I also ordered the flex bag, and some DP Pad Rejuvenator.

I then went to home depot and bought a heavy duty 1200 watt light with tripod and a gallon of folex. I didn't stop there. I headed over to both Sam's and Wal-Mart, and picked up new tire and carpet brushes, 2-24pk of micro-fibers, and a gallon of simple green.

I know some may not like the Sam's micro-fibers, but they've worked great for me so far.


Now watch it rain this weekend so I can't use my flex. :D

Nice order and nice choice of products with the exception of the towels. Before you use them, try rubbing it on a cd. If it doesn't scratch the cd you should be good to go. Even if it doesn't, I would invest in some good quality MF's. You spent too much money and time to skimp on the quality of your MF.:cheers:
 
Congrats. The Flex ia a nice kit. You might want to order a small Fuzion with your next order. You know there will be another order around July 4th. :D
 
Wow i want one now also. Everyone is pushing the flex i feel left out.And i all ready have a PC and a maktia rotary

You'll like Fuzion, but you would love Souveran on black paint. As far as your choice of mf's are concerned, maybe those little scratches are coming from Sam.

Could be. I think they are coming from regular washing and drying. You know how black shows everything. lol I guess I need to buy some better quality MF's and find out. Any suggestions on what MF's to buy??

About the Souveran, I have three tubs of it. It looks great, but it attracted the dust and pollen like you wouldn't believe. I ended up removing it, in place of Zaino. Of course I ordered some FK425, and should be receiving it Thursday. So when I re-apply the Souveran, I'll try the FK and see if that cuts down on the dust. The pollen should be over soon.. I hope.
