Best 3 inch cutting pads

car pro microfiber cutting pad is great imo, and foam cutting i like the rupes pads

What WRAPT said, +1 for Lake Country 3" MF pads both cutting and polishing

I like the Lake Country Hydrotech Cyan (blue) cutting pads.

They're a little temperamental, and need to be "babied" a bit. However, the cut to gloss ratio is ridiculous.

Due to the nature of their foam composition, they can wear faster than open cell pads. They also hold heat. After washing, make sure the foam is cometpletely dry before using, or the water trapped in the cells will heat up, expand, and rupture, causing the center to concave. Keep push and residue from building up on the face of the pad, otherwise it will force it's way into the closed cells of the pad, rupturing them, causing the foam to shed.

Griots 3" BOSS pads are nice also. They are the same as their larger ones.

The microfiber cutting pads are great!

Completely agree, until these pads were released I was still upset about Megs discontinuing their 3 inch MF pads but the 3" boss MF pads are so much better, Megs can go fly a kite as far as I'm concerned.lol

What makes them better than Megs? I have used Megs, Buff and Shine(old ones with a hole), Lake Country new ones, Flexipads and Rupes. I like Megs, Lake Country and Buff and Shine most. Does Boss mf pad cut more and is more durable than megs? Lake Country and Buff and Shine are very durable. Megs is not asdurable but i still like it.

Recently started a thread sharing my recent experiences with all of the different MF Pads.

To summarize,

I think the new LC pads are more durable, cut better, and run smoother than the old Megs MF pads

The buff and shine uro-fiber pads are by far the most durable MF pads I've ever used, are extremely smooth, but will not cut quite as well as the other 3. That said, it is the best best for 1-step compounds and even works well with AIO's like HD Speed and Boss Finishing Sealant.

Boss is more durable than Megs, but you need to switch them out regularly. It cuts nearly as much as LC an Megs do but runs MUCH cooler. It also finishes nearly as well as the B&S uro-fiber pads. Honestly, I don't understand why LC would release a microfiber pad without a center cooling chamber. I feel that is what really gives the boss MF and uro-fiber pads an edge in performance even though the LC pad is still remarkably durable.

Lake Country HDO Foam Pads

HDO Fiber Heavy Cutting Pad
Features a microfiber nap that removes heavy imperfections from your painted surfaces. Like other microfiber pads, it will enough to remove moderate to severe paint imperfections, but finishes like a foam pad.

The Optimum Hyper Wool Pad have a lot of cut if you have not tried them yet. They will leave a bit of haze, but they will out cut a MF pad

Wow thanks for sharing all this information. I really appreciate it. Gives me a pretty good idea of which brand to buy next.

Would MF pads be suitable for a rotary with a 3" soft backing plate? Or should I buy a DA that will have the option of installing a 3" backing plate?

MF pads are not popular on a rotary and for very good reason. The work best with a free spinning DA.

I use a the Flex PE-14 which is a rotary polisher. I have the soft 3 inch backing plate. Just looking at my options for the best cutting pads to use with it.
