I wanna go with a smaller back plate I was considering a 3.5 and a 5 back plate but if the 3.5 can hold a 5 inch pad then would I be better off doing that or do you have problems with a bigger pad like that on a smaller backplate cuz I was thinking its cheaper to go with smaller pads rather than buy two back plates and have 5.5 pads or 5 7/8 pads when I can just have a 3 inch back plate go from 4in to 5inch pads plus be nice to have a smaller back plate with smaller pads for around those close corners and fenders just want some suggestions.

Thanks!

The concensus I found through past searches here, and from the helpful folks upon asking, was two good sizes to have on hand for backng plates were 3.5", and 5". Both Lake County Yellow Urethane.

And that's what I bought and have.

The 3.5 can work with a number of smaller 3.5"-4" pads, better for getting in smaller areas, and they will work fine on the PC Machine.

Then the 5" Backing Plate, for use with 5.5" LC Pads, or from whomever.

As Mikey (Mike Phillips) has always commonly recommended, the thin 1/2" thick 5.5" LC Flat Pads are a good choice.

Do have a good quantity of the various pads in those sizes, to cover the basic bases, and you will be good.

Pads wear out. I would suggest for any hobbyist to at least have a 1/2 dozen of white, orange, yellow, and even blue-black on hand.

That after a few vehicles, you will maybe be needing more.

The more pads the better. Wear takes place, and if you think you'll get through a vehcile with just a couple pads, I think you'll be cutting corners, and also place mucho wear upon those pads. Heat is an enemy.
