Hello All,

I have been applying Cquartz uk Coating to a few cars and have a few more cars to do in the coming weeks and was wondering after I apply it, let it flash a little then wipe it off, whats the best type of towel to use that will wipe it off easily and not leave any fiber's/residue behind?

Thanks

I have tried that in the past but I found that it "gripped" a bit much and did not wipe it off properly. So I started using microfibers which seem to be a bit better.

How long as you guys letting it flash for? I usually do around 10-20sec. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough? I just dont want it to fully dry & then wont be able to buff it off and in turn have high/dark spots that you can see on the paint.

I just use Carpros microfiber suede towels. They always worked the best for me.

You should have directions that comes with the kit. If not---contact the Cquartz folks. They should be able to tell you.

If you find anything re flash time---let us know!

I use an 1100GSM plush edgeless towel. I'd include a link but it'll get reported.

I let UK flash for 30-40 seconds as the climate is now. mid to high 80s, humidity around the 80% mark. I love the stuff.

From what I read online some ppl say 1-5 min other people say you can apply it to the paint and wipe it off right away. I think it also has to do with the current weather and so on.

Considering that the CQUK is very oily after a quick 10-15 second flash, I can't imagine using a regular MF towel to buff that off cleanly. Surely worse if you were to wait too long to remove the coating! Even with the Carpro suede towel, I waited a little too long one time and man was it a chore to remove completely. A MF towel would have surely resulted in a major lint and a twice as long to remove (super grabby).

I say stick with suede MF.

Are coatings in general self leveling?

I did my M2 with CQClassic, so not UK but I assume same principal.

I did a test spot on decklid with a stopwatch (smartphone). As soon as I started applying CQ, I started the timer. After I did 2 horizontal\2 vertical passes, I let it set. After 2 min I would just swipe my finger to see if it was starting to drag, and every 20 sec thereafter. The magic time was 3:30 for a Michigan day in May @70°.

Once the proper time was determined, I used a towel similar to Costco's..... (16" 330 gsm) and did a quick level which removed most of the product and high spots. I then used Carpro MF suede to do a final 2 passes. I only used one side of a towel per section, after all sides were used it went into the "rags". These are used for checking oil, cleaning up spills, etc.....

I was just about to say the same thing. This method seems to work well.

:iagree:But those 16X16 suede towels are not cheap. I have a bucket of warm APC and toss them into the bucket for later washing.
