There is no such thing as the best car. Best economy car? Best Sports car? Best family sedan, etc. To some people the Prius is the best car. To others an Ford Raptor is the best. This is a question that can not be answered objectively.
Also why 2011? It's almost 2013 now.
So with all that said, my vote goes to the 2006-current VW GTI. No other car does everything the GTI can do as well as it does it. It blends performance, quality, practicality and economy like nothing else. It feels much more expensive than it is, it's faster than it's meager 200HP rating might suggest. It comes with a buttery smooth and lightning fast dual clutch automatic. It can get over 30mpg on the highway, it can reach 147 mph in stock form and you can put the seats down and put a lawn mower in the back if you need to. It's also safe being one of the few cars to get a 5 star safety rating for rear passengers. Something that matters to you if you have kids.
Some cars are faster, some cars are more luxurious, some cars are better on fuel.

The Golf GTI began life as a yuppie plaything, but has evolved into arguably the most complete motoring package on the planet. Performance, practicality, comfort, refinement, and for sensible money. In the real world, this is near enough perfection.
