Subscribed. I also have a 2000 540i (6sp :xyxthumbs, Titanium Silver Metallic. Pretty swirled when I bought it, but the silver really makes it tough to see except under florescent.

I tried to tackle this with a Griots DA and Megs MF system. I didn't have a ton of exp at the time and didn't do a test spot, I just tackled the whole car. I did 4 slow, high pressure passes and 2 light passes with the MF correcting compound. Stood back to admire my work after busting my ass for half day, and I'd made a 10% improvement in swirl elimination, really I barely made a dent. I'm going to give the system another go, but I may be doping the D300 with some M105 and definitely will do a test spot.

You gotta be kidding me! What products and pads did you use exactly??

I can only imagined how disappointed you were. Kind of like waking up as a kid Christmas morning and seeing only one gift under the tree...which turned about to be socks..that ur grandmother knitted..ha!

I used the Megs 5" MF starter system which comes with a backing plate, 4 pads, D300, D301 and an apron!. I used it with a Griot's DA. Did a lot of reading and videos before starting. After I was done, the paint was definitely cleaner and I uncovered a nice metallic flake, but as far as swirl elimination, it didn't do much. I'm looking forward to giving it another shot, but the wife gets really jealous of the time I spend with the car already.
