Best drying towel?

I used the Mother's Waffle Weave and an Absorber at times. Meh.

Finally went to Lowes and bought a Leaf Blower solely to use for drying. It took me a couple of times to perfect it but now I absolutely LOVE it. It really takes about the same amount of time, but I am happy to know I'm at zero risk really of putting scratches/swirls in the paint when I dry. At worst I dry it with the blower, then hit a little bit of QD in spots.

I know you asked about towels so didn't mean to hijack, just letting you know what worked for me. :)
 
A blower cost about 20~150 bucks so its almost the same as buying about three~five drying towels.

I wanted to use a blower or air-compressor but my car care environment doesn't allow me to use them...:cry:
 
Are the absorber chamois bad to use? I've used it for years

I have to agree. I have about 6 of the large size. I use them all the time. If you wash them reularly with a small amount of citrus cleaner and double rinse, no dry, they absorb well and wring out easily. I get no streaking at all.
 
My favorite is the Chemical Guys Delux drying towel (the yellow with the black bands). Also their blue monster drying towels are amazing.

Not that expensive and absorb alot of water.

I have used the absorber in the past before I bought my leaf blower with no problems. The potential criticism for the absorber is if you have any remaining dirt you missed at all on your car, the absorber might pull that dirt across your paint and scratch it. The waffle weave towels might give that dirt a place to escape without damaging your finish due to the waffle weave pockets. That is just what I've read regarding the absorber.
 
I read a study a few years back when I was detailing cars for a living and was constantly on the lookout for the best new products. I unfortunately can’t find the study anywhere online, but, it tested popular car drying products, including microfiber, sheepskin, synthetic chamois and some others I can't recall, probably cotton as well.

The study basically revealed that the fiber structure of the material ultimately determines the effectiveness of the product – How soft, quality of the nap, the absorbency, etc…all the important characteristics.

Synthetic Chamois
The fiber structure of synthetic chamois, like the Absorber, are very smooth and can scratch if the surface being dried isn’t completely clean.

Microfiber
The weave of the microfiber fabric is tight and unbroken which makes it very soft, have nap and highly absorbent. However, it also significantly inhibits the release of particulate picked up and trapped by the towel; therefore, MF will become abrasive overtime as particulate can accumulate in the fibers of the material.

Sheepskin Leather Chamois
The fiber structure of the sheepskin chamois has a more broken, open or loose fiber structure that produce a soft texture, natural nap and an extremely absorbent material. This fiber structure will pull in and trap dirt while drying the car, but can also effectively release that dirt when rinsed. And the sheepskin chamois can be frequently rinsed while drying the car making it better suited for safely drying delicate surfaces.

I wish I could find the study because it offers much greater technical detail which I just can’t remember. I have a meguires waffle weave and I don't use it on my paint anymore since it creates fine scratches and leaves streaks for me :/

I've used the absorber for yrs also. Picked up MF drying towel recently because I thought i was missing out on something the way they get bragged about.

I'm going back to the absorber.

Your experiences may vary.
 
I've used an Absorber for years, recently bought a Cobra waffle weave (20x40 or something like that).

Absorber when wringed out, does nice job......cobra soaks up more water without needing to be wrung out. Just my two cents worth.
 
Microfiber madness towels from Germany, the absolutely best towels I have used in 13 years in business!

I have to check those out. I a go crazy for products of Germany. Especially if they do the job.
I prefer German hand tools over a lot of US products. I have yet to see a US made Torx tips that is anywhere near as correct as Wiha tips.
 
Has anyone noticed micro marring with waffle weave drying towels? Me and an buddy were discussing them and he said he started using the Dry Me Crazy towel from CarPro instead because of marring from waffle weaves on soft paint.
 
I already have my cart ready from CarPro. I will be getting Dry Me Crazy from Microfiber Madness.

I am just waiting for them to get the new Microfiber wash sponge in stock. I talked to them on the phone and they said like a week or two. Plus I'll be getting some Denim Pads.
 
I won a DMC towel in a contest. I also have Crazy Piles and Wave Rider Jrs. I haven't used the DMC yet, but its such high quality you'll be apprehensive to use it on your car. Its also very heavy.

High quality WW towels shouldn't mar paint. They are the same material as other towels just a different weave. Towels mar primarily because of bad stitching, cheap material, scratch boarders, and contamination IME, not the weave.

i love my cobra waffle weave HD towel, that bad boy is super soft and holds a ton of water
