Hey everyone! I ordered a 2015 VW GLI SEL and I'm picking it up on Saturday. What process would you recommend for protecting the paint when I get it home Saturday? Should I clay it? Hand vs machine wax? I was thinking about using either carnauba or Klasse SG, but I'm not entirely sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Waxes/Polishes/Sealants I have:
Menzerna FG400
Menzerna SF4000
Meg's D301
Meg's D302
Meg's Gold Class Carnauba
Klasse SG
Meg's Cleaner Wax

congrats on the new car! I would always clay first even if its new if you can rub over the paint when the car is clean and hear noise like sandpaper almost then it needs to be clayed. Heck I clayed mine polished and waxed it 2 weeks prior to being in the shop to have a supercharger put on and by the time I got the car back I guess the dust in the shop and what not had bonded to the paint and it needed claying on the hood again. just clayed and waxed it again today.

as far as hand vs machine- its personal preference but i prefer using my da polisher with a wax pad on speed setting 2. it spreads the wax evenly and makes it super easy to wipe off as well as making the shine even better. If you have a machine use it ;)

as far as compounding or polishing and what not, you just need to inspect the paint, some brand new cars look awful! some not so much. but more then likely just clay, sf4000 and then wax after and bam! good luck!

I would clay it first for sure and use the SF4000, we bought a new Subaru and soon as I got home I clayed it and what a difference it made.

Thanks for the replies! What wax/sealant should I use? I can buy anything that's available locally.

It's actually SF4500 I have. If that will work what pad should I use? I haven't detailed for about a year so I forgot haha. Thanks!

Before you put clay to it, I would recommend you do an iron decontamination; Iron-X is the most common product for that.

Wash
Clay
Compound = Orange Pad (Lake Country Pads I am assuming) for FG400

Polishing = White Pad " " SF4500

Sealant/Menzerna, Wolfgang, or equivalent

I am not familiar with Meg products so I can't comment

Wax: If you want it on top of a sealant.

Either way have fun!!

Any wax recommendations? Something that. I could buy locally.

Some auto parts stores carry Collinite 845. For protection and shine at an unbeatable price; $15.00, it's #1 in my book.....

congrats on new toy!
for ease of maintenance, coat everything:
PBL diamond surface coating (paint/wheel/glass)
turf shine tire coating
carpro Dlux (trims/wheel well)

if time is not an issue and you want to play around with different products often, i would suggest Meguiars Ultimate wax and is easily available :)

Thank for the reply! I'll definitely look into those products. I'll post pictures once I'm done!

Many excellent suggestions for when you get
your vehicle home from the dealership.

But...IMHO:
The First best exterior protection is:
DO NOT LET THE DEALERSHIP PERSONNEL WASH,
OR, IN ANY OTHER WAY: CLEAN-UP YOUR VEHICLE!!
