I own a 2004 audi a6. What brand would be the best to use. Amsoil,Mobile 1, quaker state, etc?

Im guessing I would go with the euro line as it is a euro car

What are they saying over on the audi forums?

They are saying mobile 1 Ow-40 or 5w-40 by castrol or amsoil

There's a certification it has to meet...if forget, something like VW502. If it meets that (there are many that do) you're fine. It would be in the owners manual or maybe on the oil fill cap. As jvs said, best to check audi forums for people that have had used oil analysis done. That's the only real quantitative test.

I have the owners manual right next to me -yes I am that guy

manual states sae 0W-30 was first put in, but I could use 5w-30 or 5w40 which is better?

go with what the manual says and what they are saying on Audi forums.

Owned several Audis over the years and stick with Castrol Synthetic

I have a C5 A6 4.2 Quattro - Amsoil 5W40 or Castrol if the Amsoil isn't available. And either a Wix or Mobile1 filter, none of that Fram BS:mad:

I'm sure VW / Audi sells oil, as I know BMW does. Why not just use that?

Mobile 1 has a oil special for Euro cars it is 0W-40

Mann used to (and still may) make the factory oil & air filters for BMW. The oil filter I buy from the BMW dealer usually (if not always) has Mann stamped on the filter media.

I usually go to the local Walmart and pick myself up some Mobile 1 Syn O-40 when I had my Audi and VW. Though with my BMW use Lubro Moly VolSynthese 5-40.
