Older Mustang

Parked outside in the California Sun

What is a quick option on something like this?

Would prefer not to remove the bench portion of the seat if possible

I hit it with Meguiar's Natural Look, but there was little improvement

If you were going all out on a Restoration, what would be the "Best" way to preserve something like this?

Chime in if you have addressed plastics like this

Maybe Wipe New? People who use it seem to have a good experience.

I've never seen "black plastic" fade to pink.
Were these seatbelt receivers' buttons originally black?

Bob

I believe the buttons were originally red, but this vehicle was purchased in Los Angeles, so there may have been a pink option available

The seats cleaned up pretty nicely, so the buckles stick out even more

DLux would be the best. Solution Finish second best. A dressing (303): 3rd Best.
Good for you for spotting that detail.

I now have a better understanding of why
you asked that Wipe New question.

I have never used DLUX on anything that wasn't perfect prepped and already black

I have Solution Finish and will see if that will effectively dye it back

The Customer was so floored by the turn around that he didn't mind the buckles a bit

We go to the same gym, so I have access to the vehicle anytime

I'll be sure to take some pictures

for a vehicle like that...with something SO easy to replace, i'd just order used ones online, provided pics are available first...or get new.

but i understand trying to make them look the best you can with what you've been given.

PS - it's a shame they don't come apart easily because i bet all pieces could be dyed to look like new using Rit dye and a pot of boiling water, lol. buttons red, cases black.

Awesome.

I like small details like this.

What about trying to clean it up with a plastic trim clean first? Would that help?

1z plastic deep clean or similar, then an eraser wipedown, then DLux.

I doubt they had the Pink option, most probably UV as you mentioned.
My couches close to a window lost their color while I was Living in LA, that's how I learned we had high UV levels there.

1-If I recall correctly ssnake-oyl & pythonrestoration do restore old seat belts.

2-From time to time you can find replacements on Ebay.

Whereabouts are you in the City of Angels?

I think the turtle wax trim coating or tire coating would work well also. It did a real good job darkening my gray cladding on my Avalanche.

any chance of scrubbing off the oxidation with a stiff bristle brush and 1Z einszett deep plastic clean?

All this talk frequently about DLux means it will be in my next AG order. I hear it so frequently from many different users i HAVE to try it. In the meantime, my new favorite for exterior black or grey faded trim pieces is Black Wow Pro. I would love to hit these seat belt buckles with 2, maybe 3 coats. 2 coats on exterior trim pieces last a long time. I would guess it would really last inside on these seat belt pieces. A very thorough cleaning before application is key.

I have no suggestion for turning pink back to red but would want to see BWP on that part too.

It wouldn't work on the red part.
