So after having used m205 and ready to polish with PO85RD what would be the best pad to use? as far as brands? im looking at the meguiar's beige foam pad and black foam pad. are these pads suitable for applying PO85RD??? need help here!

I don't use Meguiar's pads, but I've had great success with the gray Lake Country pads. I would have to say, as far as the LC pads go, the gray or the soft green may be the best pads with 85rd.

I like LC black for jeweling with 85RD, but some are recommending using HT crimson.

Gray CCS or Flat. I've used that combo and it has done wonders.

Orange and white. What grit are you finishing with? Check out the Surbuff pads with 105.

Lake Country: Either Gray Flat or Crimson HT. Try each one side by side. Depending on the paint you may prefer one over the other.

another question, as far as sanding goes, is there a sanding backing plate for rotary buffers? is it ok to sand with a rotary? im asking because i only have a makita and i have some 3m 3000 trizac disc around but i dont have a backing plate!

Good luck Sir:xyxthumbs:

Going to depend on paint hardness but I usually have succes on speed 4 with a Meguiars yellow 8006. No finishing pad has worked for me.

That's called grinding and Ron is right, if you attempt to sand auto paint with a rotary buffer you will sand all the paint off down to bare metal or mess up the paint so badly that you'll have to repaint.

Hand sand or machine sand, I have articles on both in my article list... if it were me I would machine sand as much of the paint as possible, your sanding marks will be more uniform and buff out easier. IF you hand sand, try to get some Nikken Finishing Papers, these use Unigrit Technology and it will help you to avoid tracers and the sanding marks will buff out faster.

What are you sanding?

:)

Surbuff pads are excellent, but personally I would only recommend them is your paint condition is in bad shape, because they are very aggressive.

Its a car i recently painted at school, the thing is that where i am going to be buffing this there is no compressor to use my DA. If there was i would defenetly use that but since i have no other option, i will be doing it all by hand! Im going to remove all the orange peel, what grit do you recommend me to start with?

If you can get a DA Polisher you can use it with your Trizact discs.

This article is on dampsanding using Meguiar's Unigrit Discs but all the information would work well with the 3M Trizact discs.

Some guys sand dry, I prefer wet otherwise you need to wear a dust mask so you don't breathe in paint particulates.

Here's everything I have on sanding at this time, first article is on dampsanding. Get a cup of coffee or a cold drink as it's pretty long and thorough article. Also check out the hand sanding article below it a ways.

Im going to remove all the orange peel, what grit do you recommend me to start with?

#1500 is a good normal safe starting point. Some people start at #800 or #1000, kind of depends upon how much material you sprayed, lower grits are going to remove a lot of material fast.

Nikken Finishing Papers have 100% fill over the entire sheet of paper, as well as Unigrit particle size, point is these papers cut faster and more evenly than most automotive grade papers and this allows you to move up one grit level to get the same efficiency while leaving easier to remove sanding marks.
