I have a metallic black show car. The paint is in excellent shape. It is clear coated. I use Pinnacle Liquid Sovereign or Griots Best of Show and Spped Shine at the show. My question: should I use a glaze to really enhance the metallic black? If so, which one? The car is 20 years old with 20,000 miles, and is garaged all of the time

Okay... now you got our interest...

What is the 20 year old show car?

Also, the word glaze is used in so many ways and can mean a number of different types of products... some are abrasive, some are not, some are in fact waxes or sealants.

From a body shop point of view, kind of the place where the term originated, it would mean a non-abrasive polish with the intended purpose of maximizing gloss, richness of color, D.O.I., reflectivity, depth...

If the paint is a modern clear coat and it's not 100% swirl-free under bright light, then a better approach would be a very light finishing polish machine applied and then apply your wax.

:)

I really prefer 100% non abrasive since I do not need to remove swirls like for a daily driver. I was thinking about Menzerna or Poorboys (since it says good for BLACK).

Fuzion from Wolfgang might be just the choice ... pics needed/wanted

I would use Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite

I really like Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus. It gives a really nice glow and is very easy to use.

Just a guess but is the car a 1991 Nissan 300ZX

Regardless, looks like you have a Cyclo polisher too... assuming the paint is a clear coat finish and it should be for 1991, then use a light finishing polish like the Menzerna PO85RD, or Wolfgang Finishing Glaze or Pinnacle Finishing Glaze, they all finish down really nice.

Then top with a finishing wax, something without any cleaners. Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax works great on black paint and it's real easy to use, just wipe-on, wipe off.

Works good on red too...
