Since winter is right around the corner I need to start thinking about putting a fresh coat of sealant on my cars. Like everything else there are so many options out there and I was wondering what the best product is to use to remove current sealant/wax??

In my opinion, the answer is it depends on what all this detailing will partake. Are you simply looking to put a fresh coat of sealant/wax on or will there be some polishing?

If you are looking to only add a fresh coat of wax or sealant, I would just use an All in One or Paint Cleaner to remove the old sealant/wax and to set up a nice base for the paint.

If you are planning to do some polishing, I like to remove everything and polish are bare paint. To remove everything, I will often rinse the car off and then spray the surface with an APC and then use a strong concentration of the citrus wash. That should pretty much remove everything giving you bare paint to polish. Then you can use and AIO or Paint Cleaner to set up for your Sealant or Wax.

I use CG's Citrus Wash and Gloss, concentrated 1oz per gallon of water, to strip previous coats of preotection before I polish and or want to start a fresh sealnt or wax. There are plenty out there that will do the same as the Citrus Wash and Gloss.

grab some soft MF towels and start buffing ...

Already polished my paint in spring. All I want to do is remove the existing sealant and put a fresh layer on.

+1 :iagree:

Dawn dish soap will also work to strip any existing wax or sealant from the paint.

To Killrwheels ....... how is buffing w/ a MF towel going to remove wax or sealant???? That's a new one on me.

Really? Dawn dish soap is ok to use?? Another dumb question... Should I clay before or after i wash with dawn or CG citrus wash and gloss??

Depends on how sure you want to be that you strip the car.

Dawn, Clay, ISO wipedown, wash again???

Shade Tree, how much Dawn do you use and would you use the two bucket method? Or would you use it after a normal wash as a secondary wash? Just before the bad weather hits I was going to use a WG Paint cleaner with my PC but this sounds like a much easier way to remove the wax and sealant. My paint is already in good shape.

I rarely deal with an iso wipe down as I clean each panel as I finish claying it. Otherwise I would agree with everything mentioned above.

Dawn, clay, wash and seal/wax. :xyxthumbs:

Use just enough Dawn to get some suds in the bucket. 2 bucket method would be best, but isn't always necessary depending on how dirty the vehicle is. No need to wash the vehicle before washing with the Dawn.

Just be certain you have the car thoroughly rinsed of the Dawn before drying etc.

Any dish soap will remove wax as well as sealants from the clear coat. I have used the Citrus Wash n Glo, but it just isn't a necessary product for this stuff.

If the sealant was recently applied then you may want to increase the strength of the Dawn by two.
